I have Smith's "Drive to Win," "Nuts, Bolts, Fasteners and Plumbing," and the invaluable "Engineer in your Pocket." Anyone who has read his books knows that Smith is always entertaining, opinionated, but above all amazingly experienced and knowledgeable. > Although I have never met him, unlike some of my friends, I will miss him > nonetheless. #4. Bridgestone RE750's Anyone? + Sparkplug Advice - from Chris Conner
Top
Date: Tue, 20 May 2003 14:06:23 -0400 From: "Chris Conner" <chris@digital7.com> Subject: Bridgestone RE750's Anyone? + Sparkplug Advice I went through a set of ES100 on my m3, recently. I am also using a set of 16" RE950 on an '01 Infiniti I30. I went through 3 sets of RE730 on my previous e36 328i. I was very, very disappointed with the ES100's. Their grip was average, and they wore VERY quickly. The RE950, on the other hand, I have been VERY impressed with. The RE750 and RE950 have a very similar tread pattern. The 950 is a bit more oriented towards all-season performance. I have been thrilled with them so far. Dry performance is adequate (in a big front-driver), wet performance is wonderful. I also used this car during the huge 2 foot east coast snow-storm, and didn't get stuck once. I was amazed by their snow performance! A bit off of the m3 track, but I've wanted to plug these tires for a while. If I used my m3 at times during the winter, and didn't want dedicated winter tires, these would be my choice. All that being said, I'd take a bridgestone tire over a yokohama tire anyday. They are supposedly the replacement for the noisey RE730. I can't decide on these or the Yoko AVS ES100. Also, what is the best spark plug for the '95 M3? I used Bosch last time, but I am considering NGK's this time. I get a slight, occasional miss with the Bosch plugs. Thanks, Kevin D. McLeaster WB9HMI '95 M3 Arctic Silver

#7. Batteries and RSMs - from Jim Bassett
Top
Date: Tue, 20 May 2003 14:44:06 -0700 From: Jim Bassett <jimbassett@attbi.com> Subject: Batteries and RSMs Well, as most of you know, you can set your watch by when an E36 battery will fail - 5 years. My M3 has a prod. date of 4/98 and the battery died today (OK, I got an extra month, probably from all the commuting I *haven't* been doing :-)). Should be getting a Interstate replacement on Friday (nobody local had one in stock). (Funny part: It wasn't until I had already called Kim so that I could borrow her car today and she was on her way home that I realized not only did I have a perfectly good alternate vehicle sitting outside - it had a new battery in it! Doh! So I just swapped in the race car's battery; the M3's nicer to drive around town.) On to RSMs. I'm going to need to replace the ones on the M3 soon (again). Are the E46 ones still the choice for street-only cars? That's what's currently in there - they were swapped in from the race car, and the JTD ones went into the race car. The M3 has Koni SAs and sway bars as the only suspension mods. Thanks, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1992 325is #44 - parts car for the street car?? :-)

Since I had changed mine years ago ('99 :-)), I just wanted to see if the list-wisdom had changed at all since then. Jim Bassett

#10. HELP Bowden Cable Part # for 1995 M3 Vader Seats - from Bill P

Date: Tue, 20 May 2003 19:22:13 -0400 From: "Bill P" <billpanop@suscom.net> Subject: HELP Bowden Cable Part # for 1995 M3 Vader Seats My bowden cable broke a while back. I bought a new own and decided to try to install since the weather is finally nice. The part # my local BMW dealer sold me is BMW Part # 52 10 8 187 999 and it cost me like $7. The prblem is once I goty the seat apart the cable is not the correct one. It seems the original cable had a "S" type hook wheere it connects to the seat lever and the one I boust (above part #) has the standard "I" type hook. It will not work. Is my part number correct? If not please someone give me the correct part number. I have the seat appart and don't want to put it together as it was a pain to get it apart (hate to see how hard it will be to put together). Please Help Thank You In Advance Bill P
