#1. Hot lap timer placement - from Jason Knight
Top
Date: Thu, 22 May 2003 19:47:24 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Knight <knight2244@yahoo.com> Subject: Hot lap timer placement I purchased a hot lap timer, and after looking at the car the only place that I can see to mount it is on one of the headrest bars, pointing out the window. (This is the first time I've actually raised the headrest in my 18 months of ownership). It looks as though it will have to be angled to get out of the car if mounted there, and may move, rendering me lap time-less. Does anyone have an ingenious place to mount the receiver unit? Or, does anyone have a really simple place to mount it that I have completely overlooked? Thanks, Jason

#2. Bought used e36 M3, need help with alarm and sound system - from Rick Cardinal

Date: Thu, 22 May 2003 22:49:42 -0400 From: "Rick Cardinal" <cardinar@bellsouth.net> Subject: Bought used e36 M3, need help with alarm and sound system Hey gang, Long time e36 owner, just bought first M3 at auction. '95, build date 10/95. Problems: 1) came with a pos sony cd player HU, which I planned to replace. But found it has the an amp in the back left trunk sound panel, and seems to have the 10 speakers. HK system? The sony looks like it was just thrown in, none of the front speakers work, (not connected?). Is there any way to find out what the deal is here? Can a dealer tell me from the VIN? I want to install a current Alpine HU, but not sure what I need to make it work with an existing HK system, if that's what was installed. Problem 2: Seems to have the factory alarm installed, the siren is under the hood, and there is a red led mounted in console by stick shift. No remotes came with car, and key doesn't seem to make alarm arm. Again, how can I determine what is installed, and can I just buy remotes somewhere to make system work? Also found the fuel door is not being locking. Any help is much appreciated, Rick CCA# 135841

New tires should always be installed accordingly." The TREAD is directional. And the tread lasts about 5 minutes on the track. Once the tread is gone, you can flip 'em to your heart's content. The entire length, from the tippy top of the head to the very end of the bolt... Also, what length wheel studs are people using if you're just using stock wheels and no spacers? Hudson" <jwhud@cdsnet.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Bought used e36 M3, need help with alarm and sound system 1) A 10 speaker system is not necessarily HK. The HK systems say HK on the speaker grills. Not sure, but I think HK systems have 6x9s in the rear. Non-HK systems have a 4" midbass and a tweet, in a common housing, in the rear. An aftermarket deck will work fine with the existing speakers, as long as the factory amp is retained. The factory amp is located in the trunk, on the left side, outboard of the trunk liner, just behind the wheel well. You can start by taking a look at the factory amp. Are both connectors hooked up? Are any wires cut? If yes, no, then you'll have to start measuring potentials or get a pro involved. Of course, you can check wiring connections at the front speakers too. If you want to get more involved in trouble shooting, let me know. There are other things you can try. It could be the remote turn-on for the amp. Do the rear speakers work? 2) I don't have any experience with a factory alarm. I believe they are made by Alpine. If it is a factory alarm, the remotes will probably have to come from the dealer. You cannot just buy a remote somewhere and have it programmed to work with your alarm. Most car audio shops that sell/install alarms will probably be able to determine what brand alarm it is and give you some help with locating new remotes. I don't believe the factory alarm would have any negative impact on fuel door locking. My Clifford alarm locks the fuel door. But, low budget alarms or flaky installers may cause problems with the fuel door locking. Let me know if I can help. It reset and never came back on. I had a very tall and large person sit in the seat for a short drive. It was after this that the light was on. You loose about 3/4" of height adjustment because the total stack is not as high. My coilovers are now adjusted to full height to get the recommended height in front. Also, you actually loose caster and I have the caster setting to maximum and leave it there. You also get more NVH with these than stock. You can adjust the camber over a very wide range though. - Jim Hagerman -----Original Message----- From: Rex Tener [mailto:rex_tener@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2003 07:31 To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Ground Control E36 M3 Hybrid Camber/Caster plates Date: Wed, 21 May 2003 14:36:08 -0700 From: Rex Tener <rex_tener@yahoo.com> Subject: Ground Control E36 M3 Hybrid Camber/Caster plates I was surfing the Ground Control web site when I noticed in the BMW new parts area: <http://www.ground-control.com/bmwnew.htm> BMW E36 M3 Hybrid Camber/Caster plates Anyone have these installed? You don't have to lock *twice*. Just turn the key and remove key normally. In fact, there is a warning in the owner's manual NOT to lock a child in the car with the key. You cannot open the doors from inside once you double lock the door. The child would be trapped. The factory alarm double locks if you press the second remote button. It is a two step process. You have to press the top button to lock, then the middle button to double lock. #10. Fog Light Replacement - from Michael Michalski
Top
Date: Fri, 23 May 2003 12:19:44 -0500 From: "Michael Michalski" <mmichalski@leaselink.com> Subject: Fog Light Replacement Hey guys, Need some help. I recently had a cracked fog lamp that I replaced (at least I thought I did). I discovered much to my horror, that the fog light has hanging down as I drove around last night hitting and scrapping at everything in site. Anyway, I attempted to reinsert the fog lamp into the bracket. Apparently I was unaware of my own strength and cracked the mounting bracket right off...grrrrr! So, my question is, how hard is it to replace the mounting bracket. It looks like a real pain. What needs to be removed to get at those screws. Do I need to take off the front bumper cover, the complete under panel? Help! Michael Michalski 97 M3 Sedan with on big hole where the right fog light used to be.
