They have an even wider section width (the widest part, and the part that rubs) than the 245/45 Kumho V700's. (You can verify this from the specs at Tire Rack's web site). So if you don't think 245 Kumhos will fit, the Hoosiers def won't. Also FWIW, my first experience with Hoosiers was also my last: they corded in 3 events and cost 50% more than the Kumhos - IMO they're not worth the 1-2 sec/lap over the Kumhos they got me. You might want to consider 225/45 Kumhos (better grip than 235 A032s, and better gearing than the taller 245/45 Kumhos anyway), or the 225/45 Michelin Pilot Sport Cups (but at almost 2x the price of the 225 Kumhos). - Bill

In addition to an i cam I plan to remove the AC compressor, condenser, and lines. Anything I have to watch out for doing that? I will be replacing all belts including timing, gaskets, hoses, etc. since it is already apart. Anything else I should think of replacing while the engine is apart besides the obvious tune up parts like plugs? #5. Need help with hot coolant temp guage - from Pilewan23@aol.com

Date: Tue, 27 May 2003 00:25:36 -0400 From: Pilewan23@aol.com Subject: Need help with hot coolant temp guage Hi fellow M3 owners, My 95 E36 M3 with 70k has been dealer maintained by the previous owner. I've had it for 5k miles. On friday the car was beiing driven at approx 34mph in third gear and coolant temp guage went to red and the check engine light came on, and stayed on. I pulled of the side of the road and turned the engine off immediately, then turned on the heater at full blast, but there was no heat coming out the vents. I reset the computer and the check engine light and the red temp light went off, then I proceeded to drive the car to a parking lot and called AAA and got it towed home. My mechanic told me he was not going to be able to look at it till tuesday, but he said it sounds like the thermostat and even gave me some advise as hoe to change the thermostat. I would like to say thermostat, but the car had been driven for 15 minutes already and there was no heat coming through the vents. 1)What do you guys think? 2)Should I just change the thermostat and see what happens? 3)Is it easy to remove the fan nut, 32mm I think? Thanks in advane Ajay Avus blue

The mini-CD-ROM-like "washer" always goes under the bolt head -- the order is: Bolt Head -> Odd-shaped Washer -> Shock ->Axle Carrier You just got lucky that only one side pulled out halfway ... -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. #7. 245/40/17 Hoosiers - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Tue, 27 May 2003 11:55:37 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: 245/40/17 Hoosiers Has anyone mounted 245/40/17 Hoosiers on 8" wide wheels? I know Tire Rack refers to an 8.5" wheel as the minimum for 245/40/17 but other tire manufacturers allow 245/40/17s on 8" wheels so I know that it is close to being acceptable. Also, I know Hoosier 245/40/17s are wide. But, Hoosier also states an 8" wheel as acceptable for 245/45/17 which are essentially the same width tire, just a little taller. I am asking because I have 8" wide wheels (SSR Integrals). Anyone? Also, if you are using Hoosier 245/40/17 and 8" wide wheel, how do they fit front and rear? Thanks, Rich

I need an oil filter housing that will fit a 95 M3. More specifically, I need one of the two small plungers that are in the bottom of the assembly (just under where the oil filter rests). When changing my oil this weekend, I noticed that the metal clips that hold this "plunger" (my term for it) in place had snapped and are allowing the plunger to float. I have pictures in case anyone is curious about parts what I'm talking about. The dealership doesn't sell the plunger separately, and they want nearly $500 for a completely new housing when all I really need is a .95 cent part! Grrrrr. Will anyone that has an oil filter housing for sale that will fit a 95 M3 please send me an email? Thanks, Rob

Top
Date: Tue, 27 May 2003 15:23:48 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Need help with hot coolant temp guage It does NOT sound like the thermostat. Why does your friendly mechanic think so? If you do not have any heat coming out of the vents, then you don't have any hot water in the heater core. About the only way this can occur is loosing coolant. See if you have any water in the radiator. If no, then you have a leaking water pump or ruptured radiator hose. You could have coolant loss from other failures but these two are the most common. Defective thermostat will not cause you to lose coolant. If it is not one of the above problems, then you are probably looking at a blown head gasket. Very expensive. :-( And lets hope driving without coolant if it was one of the first two failures, did not warp your head. Good luck. Lowell Seaton '95 M3 BMW CCA #131505
