I've always reset with key in the #2 position only. >and I removed it quickly after it finished.... As long as the display returned to "Fc" or "cE" (I forget which is the starting point), you should be OK. Or maybe your car just hates you? <bfg>. Jim Bassett

#9. Battery vent tube pic and part #'s? - from DocWyte

Guys, One of the previous owners of my car saddled me with a craptacular CarQuest battery. It's not vented and isn't setup to be. I want to replace it with the proper vented interstate battery, but of course the factory vent tube stuff is missing as well. Can anyone send me a ETK pic of it and the part #'s so I know what to look for at the junkyard? TIA! -josh ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! #10. Diagnosing Oil Consumption ... - from The Buch
Top
Date: Wed, 28 May 2003 20:47:34 -0700 From: The Buch <the_buch@telus.net> Subject: Diagnosing Oil Consumption ... My '99 M3 which I have owned since new, has about 70,000 miles on the engine. I have religiously run RedLine10W40 synthetic oil in the engine for at least the last 50,000 miles (BMW synthetic before that), as well as RedLine D4ATF in the tranny and 75/90 diff oil. Recently, my oil consumption has increased to one quart every 600 miles. Cylinder leakdown testing indicates the engine is literally in perfect condition (compressions are just as strong as new with 0% leakdown 'across the board') (I also achieved an immediate and sustained 5% fuel mileage improvement over the BMW (Castrol) oil). The only remaining diagnosis for this oil consumption, which includes a puff of blue smoke in first gear, is apparently valve stem seals. This is a major disappointment at this mileage, and requires the head to be taken off!! Is it possible that the additive in BMW's synthetic oil spec is useful in keeping these seals in good condition for longer?? If so, are there any additives I should be considering?? Are there any other diagnoses I might be missing (slack manometer testing of the PCV came back 'normal')?? If I have to take the head off, anything else I should be considering at the same time?? As always, advice is greatly appreciated, Doug
