He suspects that someone may be masquerading the 'from' address to make it appear as if the email is coming from the list. I believe I got one a few days ago, but my ISP (Roadruuner) caught it, and all I got was an advisory email about someone trying to send a virus. I deleted the email so can't say what the address was. Also, in addition to being scanned for viruses, all list email is scanned for attachments and they are removed. So if you get anything that looks like it came from the list but has an attachment, be very careful.... Double-lock is similar to setting a deadbolt. When the doors are double-locked, an additional mechanical latch is engaged, so the door knob can't be manually opened. It also engages the vehicle immobilization feature. Most alarm systems are wired to engage the double-lock when the alarm system is activated. So, if you activate your alarm, and the battery dies, you have problems. I just checked my M3, and double lock engages if the car is locked using the key in the driver's door lock. The only way to lock the car and NOT engage double-lock is to use the keychain remote (3-button), single-lock button. It may be differerent if the car doesn't have an alarm system installed. I have vaders with no roll bar or harness bar. What I did was to add a Simpson lap belt. I use it in addition to the factory 3-point. I doesn't hold my upper body in place. But, it does keep my fat a$$ from moving around. I was very happy with the results. Now I have to come up with some sort of pad for the center console to keep my knee from getting so sore. Date: Sat, 07 Jun 2003 16:51:36 +0000 From: kim.burgess@att.net Subject: oil filter p/n!!!! I don't want to admit this but...I'm in the process of doing my first oil change (oil is draining as I type) on the M3 and I'm comparing the oil filter that came out, p/n 'H 926 3', to the one that is going in, 'HU 926 3X', both MANN products. The old one has metalic end caps and the one going in does not. Are these the same and interchangable? TIA Kim Burgess

Date: Sat, 7 Jun 2003 13:19:12 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] oil filter p/n!!!! Kim, Good question. I'm not sure I will be able to give a definitive answer but I know you need something quick so you can get your car off the jack stands. My guess is yes, you should be OK. I have always used Mahle filters because that is what Steve D'G always sends me. I think the MANN filters are equivalent. Sounds like MANN has cheapened up the filters but doing away with the metal ends. Probably no loss in quality. I would not worry about it. A bigger worry is the life of the paper filter itself. BMW in its wisdom now expects customers to drive 15,000-20,000 miles on an oil change. The paper filter element is known to disengrate after 10,000 miles. So I would highly recommend replacing your filter before 10,000 miles. Probably the plastic end caps will last as long as the paper. My big question is whether I remove the paper wrapping around the filter? Sometimes I don't, other times I do. I have no idea what it does and don't see any reason for it. Good luck on the first oil change! Now you see how easy it is. I like how BMW has the filter on the top of the engine. Very easy to change. Oh! I will recommend you really tighten down the bolt holding the filter cap on. I don't know what the torque requirement is but I doubt you have a torque wrench that small. Just make it good and tight by hand. Probably tighter than you first want to believe. I was afraid of overtightening it one of my first oil changes and the oil leaked out.
