#1. Harbor Freight aluminum jack - from Mo Karamat

Date: Mon, 09 Jun 2003 16:53:13 -0400 From: Mo Karamat <karamatm@optonline.net> Subject: Harbor Freight aluminum jack Josh, Hello, hope all is well! I bought the jack last year.. Good - Cheap - Very Light weight. - works - A few pumps to full lift. (Some of those w/lots of effort) - Low starting point, so a lowered car is not a problem.. - Dare I say "looks cool" Not so good. - You get what you pay for.. It's a little cheaply made. - Mine has started making a occasional clicking sound when the car is up for a bit. I called HF about it, and they said that after a few months, it is out of warranty. They suggested bleeding it. I have not done that yet.. - The handle flexes a lot more than I would like. Hope this helps. I'm very tempted to get it. Anyone have one and can post their opinion of it? -josh

#2. Was Strut ? Long, now Strut Spring Compressors - from Steve Stoner

Date: Mon, 9 Jun 2003 16:57:31 -0400 From: Steve Stoner <sstoner@treev.com> Subject: Was Strut ? Long, now Strut Spring Compressors Thanks to the many who replied to my long post. Between replies and research in the archives,I've decided to go with the Koni SA setup. The lure of adjustability, better compatibility with the stock springs, and that weird part of me that likes the challenge of a tougher assignment. I found a potentially great deal at Harbor on a strut spring compressor. Any body ever tried one of these? Looks a lot better than the pair of single threaded rods with hooks kind. And the price is reasonable. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=43753 I tried to order one last night, but they are on back order till June 20th, and though I am patient, with the car already apart awaiting the new Koni SAs, I can't wait that long. Anyone in DC metro area have a tool I could borrow? thanks Steve Stoner 97M3 On jack stands, recieveing Redline fluides this evening, Koni SAs and , custom RSMs (thanks ChuckB)later this week

I got mine at TC Kline. $hey run about $178 each for the rears, which is $40 each more than the internally adjustable version. A no-brainer for the money. Neil 96 M3

Long, now Strut Spring Compressors If you have an AutoZone store near by, a better deal is to use their loaner strut compressor. It is much better than the Harbor Freight. Plus it is FREE. You just "buy" it and then return it for a full refund. You can keep it for 90 days. I've used AutoZone's compressor numerous times. The 95 M3 DME had two speed limiters. The first limiter was at 137mph. If for any reason the car accelerated past 137mph, a second speed limiter engaged which activated the VANOS (essentially advancing the intake cam). This caused the power to drop, slowing down the car. JimC's chips eliminate both of these speed limiters (neither of which has anything to do with RPM).
