I think the threaded rod and the nuts the provide aren't as nice as they should be and don't operate the way I think they should. I used mine this weekend again (used it about four different times now) and find it to be cumbersome and a PITA but, it does work and seems safe. I'll sell you mine for the cost of shipping.... I have a Federal Moog strut compressor that I need to try but never mounted it on the wall so I hadn't tried it yet. Later, Rich

It worked great the few times that I had to use it. The parts are pretty solid and well made and best of all it's cheap. Joe. ============== Thanks to the many who replied to my long post. Between replies and research in the archives,I've decided to go with the Koni SA setup. The lure of adjustability, better compatibility with the stock springs, and that weird part of me that likes the challenge of a tougher assignment. I found a potentially great deal at Harbor on a strut spring compressor. Any body ever tried one of these? Looks a lot better than the pair of single threaded rods with hooks kind. And the price is reasonable. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=43753 I tried to order one last night, but they are on back order till June 20th, and though I am patient, with the car already apart awaiting the new Koni SAs, I can't wait that long. Anyone in DC metro area have a tool I could borrow? thanks Steve Stoner 97M3 On jack stands, recieveing Redline fluides this evening, Koni SAs and , custom RSMs (thanks ChuckB)later this week __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Much prefer the threaded rod compressors. Neil 96 M3

#4. Bilstein Coming Off Lower Mount: Washer Size? - from morris.michael@tiax.biz

Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 13:16:16 -0400 From: morris.michael@tiax.biz Subject: Bilstein Coming Off Lower Mount: Washer Size? Hello list, A few weeks ago I read a post about someone who's rear Bilsteins were "sliding" off the rear lower mount. Basically the material/bushing holding the strut to the bolt was "giving" and the strut looks like it is going to slide right off. I am pretty sure some washers should fix this..... can someone tell me what size? I want to run over to our shop and grab some before I leave today. Well, the bolt that goes through is a M12 so get something with an inner diameter that will accomodate this and a big outer diameter. #6. More Seat Time - from Steve Klein

Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 12:40:42 -0700 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: More Seat Time Hi, Gang- Since the topic of seats, harnesses and roll bars has come up, I'm a bit confused about the dangers of one without another or some with none, etc. . . Specifically, I'd been musing on replacing the 'vader with something like the EVO 3 for more comfort and lateral support. The car is a daily driver, and (sadly) I've yet to begin auto-x'ing, DEing and such, so the only demands on the car as a whole are spirited commuting and fierce off-ramping. I'm 6' 7", 230 and evenly proportioned, which places me ergonomically in that two-and-a-half percentile at the end of the curve and just a little too big for the 'vaders to handle. Is this a bad Idea? Would it require adding a harness? A roll bar? What would be the optimal/safest combination? Thanks, Steve

#8. oil pump nut DRAMA - from Chris Conner
Top
Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 17:26:40 -0400 From: "Chris Conner" <chris@digital7.com> Subject: oil pump nut DRAMA Low oil pressure light came on in my 99 m3. Cut engine, had it towed to Princeton BMW on Tuesday, May 27. TWO WEEKS later, after much bitching on my part, they finally LOOK at the car. It is the oil pump nut. Good, I said, an easy fix. They told me that the oil pump nut backing off is not covered under my Certified Pre-Owned warranty. Wow! Okay, how much is the repair? $800 and change to tighten the oil pump nut. I said no thanks; I will tow it home and do it myself. They are now telling me I owe them a $400 diagnostic fee. I did not authorize any repairs that were not under warranty, nor was I informed of the possibility that this would not be covered under warranty. I spoke to BMW NA, who called the dealer to mediate. The dealer will not budge on the diagnostic fee, even considering the fact that my car has been sitting on their lot for 2 weeks. Recommendations? My only angles now are whether or not CPO covers this happening and the fact that I did not authorize any possible charges. I have another dealer verifying warranty coverage of the nut. Is there a TSB for this problem? Is it widely known, or does it only happen to e36m3 list members?! Thanks in advance. Chris
