I've replaced the oil pan on my ex-325e, and it wasn't too hard, but it was a bit of a PITA. Anyone have any tips on doing so on the S52? I'm flying without a Bentley right now, so any hints would be appreciated. Also, which nut is it specifically? TIA, KC Boyce '97 M3 Crew Cab

Can anyone advise as to the cause and/or fix? Lew Becker

#7. Check Engine and O2 sensor issue - from JUSTIN GERRY
Top
Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 11:53:49 -0400 From: "JUSTIN GERRY" <JGERRY@butchers.com> Subject: Check Engine and O2 sensor issue My '97 has a check engine light on, I hooked up the Peake code reader, and it gave me a "3d" code, which according to chart means that "AfterCat oxy sensor heater, Cyl #4-6" has a problem. Does this just mean that there is a problem with the O2 sensor(s) after the catylitic convertor, or is there something else in there that I need to worry about? I thought I remember Dinan telling me that getting the oil pan off involved dropping the sub-frame, IIRC, but then again that could have been my old M5. mark. -----Original Message----- From: Chris Conner [mailto:chris@digital7.com] Sent: Tuesday, June 10, 2003 10:01 PM To: E36M3 Subject: RE: [E36M3] oil pump nut DRAMA Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 00:55:44 -0400 From: "Chris Conner" <chris@digital7.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] oil pump nut DRAMA >At 02:31 PM 6/10/03, Chris Conner wrote: >>I have another dealer verifying warranty coverage of the nut. > >I'm not aware of anyone getting it covered, but then I've mainly heard it >happeneing on race-prepped cars (no warranty). But check Bimmerforums.com, >there was a long discussion about this many months back, and you might find >someone who got it covered. ACK! I wish I knew this beforehand. I was 95% sure it was the oil pump nut, based on recent board discussion. If I knew they wouldn't cover it, I would've done the job myself 2 weeks ago. Oh well - everyone else pay attention to this, or follow the list's advice to secure your oil pump nut before it backs off. > >My 2 cents, >Jim Bassett >1998 M3/4 - oil pump nut preventatively tightened >1993 325is #44 JP/A5 - oil pump nut tightening cost me $7200 and a race >weekend :-( ACK again! Not a fun thing to experience. Guess I should quit whining about my paltry $800 now ;) I've spoken to my lawyer about the best way to deal with this. I will advise the list after my situation is resolved. I'll update when I get the car back. #9. brake specs - from Dorffer, Rich

Someone told > me the original BMW pieces are painted or coated at > the hats, I don't know for sure myself. A lot of original BMW rotors are painted with a flat gray paint on the hats. It doesn't prevent rust, but it does deter it longer than unpainted hats. I paint mine (hats and rotor vanes) with hi-temp ceramic based silver paint (intended for exhaust manifolds). Still doesn't prevent rust but it does delay it for a while. Let's see, I have painted Balos, Brembos, and Ate before. It is easier to do it when they are new as rusty ones are much harder to clean up first. Euro E36 M3 rotors are nice since they have aluminum hats but I still painted the vanes with some hi-temp ceramic based silver paint before installing them. Regards, Rich
