(Camshafts) James, Don't know if you caught my previous post but I have some cams out of a 3.2 L with aprox. 22K miles on them. Let me know if they work for you maybe we can work something out. Thanks, Pedro. #3. Power window woes continue - from Dave Spragg

Date: Sun, 22 Jun 2003 13:34:29 -0400 From: "Dave Spragg" <dspragg@attbi.com> Subject: Power window woes continue After much fiddling and fidgeting I decided that the window motor was shot and replace the whole motor/controller/scissor unit with a used one from a friends gutted race car. After getting that puppy in there (not easy) it's not working and now applying power to the old one (out of the car) is making it work again. I am thinking the window track is too restrictive or something but sliding the window up and down isn't really very hard at all by hand... Of course this doesn't move the gear through the motor but rather just moves the whole thing. Any ideas? I really doubt the tracks are the issue but I am going to lube them with some silicone spray. Also noticed that the window only needs to larger plug with about 6 or 8 connections to work and don't know what the 3 hole plug is for right next to it... Perhaps the power locks? Any thoughts appreciated and feel free to just mail me off list if your just guessing. I'm out of ideas though so fire away. :) Car: 1992 318is with 95 M3 engine and stock electronics. Door panels are removed and were replaced with aluminum panels to clear the cage I had built and windows were working for the past year or so and then the passenger side died. Also you can hear the relay click when you hit the button but no motor noise and yes I have swapped the switches and such. Thanks. I had the M3 aligned by them a few months ago. Very good experience. I was there at 8AM, car was on the rack a few minutes later. Car was off around 9-9:30AM. Test drive felt good, but steering wheel was slightly off-center. Went back and it was fixed in minutes. Steve, their BMW Master Tech, did the alignment. Jim Bassett

#7. Code 1226, Knock sensor. Again. - from Steve Klein
Top
Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2003 12:21:34 -0700 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Code 1226, Knock sensor. Again. Hello, Group- I did the five toe-taps this weekend (which I do about once a week) and got the code 1226 for the second knock sensor. Again. This was replaced about a year ago by my shop, the code reset, and the engine peppier. I'm wondering two things: 1) could it be a fouled connector where the harness meets the plug (and where and how hard is it to access for contact cleaning?), and 2) would this be in indication of persistent knock, or is the code in reference to the function and condition of the sensor itself? I'll be taking the car in next week for a coolant and brake flush (with a set of Stop Tech stainless lines installed, woo ho!) and I'll have them reset the code and clean the plug, but I'd like to inspect the plug and location myself first. Thanks for your input, Steve

Are you sure they replaced _this_ knock sensor (there are two)? > I'm wondering two things: 1) could it be a fouled connector where the > harness meets the plug (and where and how hard is it to access for > contact cleaning?), Could be, but not likely. When I replaced my rear knock sensor (forgot the code #) last year at ~65K miles, the connector was shiny clean even after 3 cooling system blow-ups. > and 2) would this be in indication of persistent knock, or is the > code in reference to the function and condition of the sensor > itself? The latter. Namely, the sensor itself is heading south and the DME wants you to replace it. If in doubt, reset the CE light and see how long it takes for it to come back. > I'll be taking the car in next week for a coolant and brake flush > (with a set of Stop Tech stainless lines installed, woo ho!) and I'll > have them reset the code and clean the plug, You can't get to the sensor/plug, much less clean it, with the intake manifold in place. Getting it off and back on is a major PITA. good luck, alex f

Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2003 13:46:30 -0700 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Re: Code 1226, '95 engine codes Hi, Roan- I think this only works on OBD I cars, but if you turn the ignition to run (the detent before Start) and quickly and fully depress and release the gas pedal five times, the OBD will flash the 'Check Engine' light in a sequence of four digits (in my case, one flash, pause, two flashes, pause, two flashes, pause, six flashes, pause, then one long flash to signal the end of the code). The codes are listed in the Bentley manual and several places on line (try unofficialbmw.com). Let me know if that helps or if you have any other questions. The #2 sensor. I peeked under the intake with a flashlight and thought "Eek." I'll leave it until I take it in to the shop. They've been good about standing behind their work in the past and are fellow enthusiasts.
