Date: Sat, 28 Jun 2003 18:18:20 EDT From: NSimon1111@aol.com Subject: Re: Master cylinder/brake booster problem? Noticed that brake pedal travel longer after I installed my Porterfield R4s for drivers school so I bled brakes. Inasmuch as I didn't remove brake fluid reservoir cap and reservoir full, appears that some fluid squeezed out around cap and *possibly* between master cylinder and brake booster when I used C-clamp to press piston into caliper. Because weeping of the brake fluid between the master cylinder and brake booster *may* have also previously occurred, I tightened two bolts approx. 1/8 turn. Following all of this, brake pedal height seemed to be back to normal. No leakage during today's 4 30 minute track sessions and brakes worked well, but pedal travel again longer (and not due to pad wear). No fade, and didn't have to be harder on pedal, just "engaged" at lower point. If I pumped pedal quickly once or twice, pedal will engage at a higher point. Is this a symptom of a failing master cylinder and/or brake booster? Sorry for the bandwidth. Advice would be much appreciated. Neil Simon Wash, DC 99 M Coupe

I removed the 2 retaining screws per Bentley, but can't get the instrument cluster to tilt out (at all). Any hints? As I recall, removal of the steering wheel is not necessary to replace the instrument lights; can anyone confirm? Lew Becker

Is this a > symptom of a failing master cylinder and/or brake booster? Having to pump the pedal twice could be a result of warped rotors that push the pistons back out more than usual.. I had that happen on my car at the Glen and replaced all 4 rotors with new ones.... Result? No need to double pump... Chester =====

Here is what Matt Malfa posted last year: >Date: Mon, 4 Feb 2002 23:20:26 -0500 >From: "Matt Malfa" <matt@shortshifter.com> >Subject: RE: [E36M3] e36 instrument cluster removal > >1. The trouble I had when I did mine was getting the cam lock style connectors removed from the back of the instrument cluster. The cluster can be slid to the right of the steering wheel and past the center vent once the connectors are removed. -- Rex Tener rex_tener@yahoo.com

Just discovered a broken front sway bar bracket on my RD Sport setup on my M3. These were installed by the previous owner so I don't know whether the bracket is a stock part or a RD specific part. Anyone else know? (and he I thought I was just suffering from brain fade during the last session out on track!) Thanks, Jeremy Lucas 95 M3

You be the judge: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=156884&prmenbr=361 It looks the same to me. ??? Maybe this will make it more available than being on permanent backorder at Harbor Freight . Jeremy Lucas 95 M3
