Date: Tue, 8 Jul 2003 17:40:10 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Oil Distribution Block Jim Bassett already touched upon it but the JTD oil distribution block doesn't fit all cars. It didn't fit on my 1995 M3 and repeated efforts to get JTD to acknowledge this were never answered. Here is a pic of a proper oil filter housing with the extended port: http://www.apexcone.com/Gauges/oct12_08.jpg My oil filter housing was basically flush on the backside where this port was so the lower sender (idiot pressure sender) would interfere with the housing. So, I had my own model made. Brett Anderson at Koala Motorsport was going to have these made but I am not sure anything ever came of it. Regards, Rich

A better choice would be an engine hoist for $150 which would have more future use than just the BMW support. Regards, Rich

Date: Tue, 8 Jul 2003 18:12:30 EDT From: AVUSM3@aol.com Subject: FS: TMS/Conforti Chip for 1995 M3 If anyone is looking for a chip for their '95 M3 I have a TMS/Conforti one for sale. It is the standard chip for cars with 1/95 and later build dates. The first $160 takes it. I will cover shipping in the U.S. Thanks, John Cloutier avusm3@aol.com (603) 292-5500

I've been pointed toward two sources for an equivalent: <http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=36092> and <http://Eastwoodco.com> then search for Item 46161. These seem to be quite similar, although not identical, and cost $60. > A better choice would be an engine hoist for $150 which would have more future > use than just the BMW support. Normally I'd agree, especially since I have a Harbor Freight store nearby, but I really don't have room to store one. I'll be removing the oil pan, hence the need for support from above the engine. I haven't checked yet to be absolutely sure, but I'm assuming there's no place to jack from below other than the oil pan. Anyone know if there's another engine lift point at the rear someplace? I agree and have considered the same. I have little use for an engine hoist on a regular basis (at least I hope not) to justify the storage of it. > I'll be removing the oil pan, hence the need for support from above the > engine. Not that I know of. > Anyone know if there's another engine lift point at the rear someplace? You have to put a bolt or special tool through a spot on the bell housing IIRC to which you can attach the chain to lift the motor (along with a spreader to span the motor). But, I figured with the tranny installed, one could lift from the front of the motor to support the motor in place (while the tranny held up the other end or allowed a pivot point) using a lift. #10. removing rotors - from Mdriver13@aol.com
Top
Date: Tue, 8 Jul 2003 21:25:36 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: removing rotors Group, I went to replace my rotors this weekend. All was going well until the rotor itself would not come off. This was the front rotor (the easy ones). I gave it a few good whacks with my 3 lb. mallet and a block of wood, but was afraid I'd bend the rotor, not be able to get it off, and need to have the car towed. I really hate that feeling! So my question to you guys is, do I stand a good chance of getting these rotors off since this is the first time they will ever be removed from the car (build date 9/96), and 34K miles????? Sure wish BMW would have used anti-seize on these :-( Again, TIA BTW: Thanks to all who pointed me in the right direction for the Axxis Ultimate brake pads. I ordered them from Kit Wetzler at MPact Motorsports today. Great price! Thanks, Kit. Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA BSP Champion '01 & '02
