I think I have 5 in my car and it didn't get all the way up to normal this past winter at 0degF, but plenty warm enough to provide heat. #3. Battery again - from Dorffer, Rich

The other has reversed terminals. I don't remember which is the one > we need. A couple of years ago there was no difference between the MT-91 and the MTP-91 (P stands for Plus) with the exception of warranty (additional 12 months), CCA (additional 25-50 amps) and cost (a few dollars) IIRC. There were no differences with the terminals. Last I checked, I didn't even think the MT-91 was still available, just the MTP-91. The MTP-93 has higher CCA (850) and CA (1,065), same warranty, as the MTP-91 (CCA-700 and CA-875). Not sure it is worth the difference since the MTP-91 is adequate and very similar to the OE Douglas in that regard and is 3" longer than the MTP-91 (and likely heavier). Regards, Rich 95 M3 - Interstate MTP-91 - fits great 90 325is - Interstate MTP-91 - fits great

It's also 700 CCA. -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carey Probst" <hcprobst@alum.mit.edu> > > > Also, there is an MT and an MTP. One is a direct fit except for the vent > hole. #6. 95 E36 M3 Knock Sensor #2 - from Robert S. Hatrak II

Hatrak II" <rshatrakii@earthlink.net> Subject: 95 E36 M3 Knock Sensor #2 Does anyone have/know of a write-up for replacing the #2 knock sensor on a 95 M3? Oddly, I am getting a 1226 code again on my car. The last time I got that was 1/2002. I would think they would last longer than that! Thanks, Rob

Turns out the owner was passing through from Michigan and the car overheated on the interstate. He kept going until it wouldn't run any more. :( The car has around 150K miles, and the plastic water pump impeller is nothing more than a green corroded stump. A compression test showed it was leaking everywhere. The engine got hot enough to melt one of the knock sensors, and needless to say the head is warped. This poor guy is going to pay $2200 for a new bare head, plus the water pump and miscellaneous other parts, and who knows how much in labour charges to put it all back together again. My bet is that there won't be much change from $4 grand. Not to mention that he got stranded miles from home. All for a $50 water pump. Ouch. Neil 96 M3

Rob, Bentley instructions are pretty accurate. #2 is the rear (cyl 4-6) sensor, right? If so, figure 6-12 hours for the job. If not for the need to remove the intake manifold to get access to the sensor, it would have been a 10 minute job. IIRC, you could access the front (cyl 1-3) knock sensor by just removing the air filter box, HFM and plumbing. > Oddly, I am getting a 1226 code again on my car. The last time I got > that was 1/2002. I would think they would last longer than that! Did sure you mount the new sensor in the same orientation as the one that came out? Torqued to speq? It should indeed last longer than 18 months... alex f

On the consensus, there are 2 body shops that everyone appraised: 1. Dick's Autobody in Sommerville 2. Sansossio Autobody in Natick I will have my car repaired in Sansossio since they are pretty close to my house. Thanks again, Jay __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo!
