I know we are trying to promote certain supporting vendors, but I think once per digest is adequate. Regards, Rich

Short answer, yes. The MZ3 lever is really not a good solution for our cars. For one, you are putting in another stock shifter with many plastic parts. Plastic which wears and develops slop just like your first stock shifter. Thus, two to three years later, you've got the slop again necessitating a replacement. Second, the alignment is off. UUC puts it well on their website: "No linkage re-alignment causes increased effort, notchiness, and guibo interference in some models." So yeah, time to switch to the best short shifter on the market ;) http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_product/bmw_shifters/shifter_nav.htm Eric M. Foster Performify.com

I believe Ron Stygar has outlined a solution for that condition as well as others. Ron suggests correcting the selector rod geometry. (note: M3 and 328 share components/geometry) In addition to freshening all of the joints (new bushings and shimming with washers) the shifter mailto:RonStygar@aol.com?SUBJECT=<E36>%20Lets%20replace%20a%20shift%20lever the discussion mailto:RonStygar@aol.com?SUBJECT=Lets%20check%20out%20the%20selector%20rod%20joint%20vertical%20off%20axis%20force%20in%20my%2096%20328is the fix http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/drivetrain/e36_rons_short_shifter_install_extra_bend.html I think Rogue has developed a 'weighted' selector rod to 'help' with the notchy feel associated with an SS but I'm not sure if the geometry is correct when using other than their SS product. and these guys have a pretty crude solution though inexpensive http://www.ohiomotorcycle.com/understeer/cheapwsr.shtml KLBurgess

If I lived closer to Dallas I would offer to pay the guy to let me swap my leather for his cloth. I found a 1995 M3 with no sunroof in Los Angeles about a week ago, but it had a leather interior. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw no wrinkles on his side bolsters and the car has 150k miles or something crazy! We he's not looking, I'm gonna steal his seats and swap them out ;) Chester --- Rex Tener <rex_tener@yahoo.com> wrote: > The seats look pretty damn good for a 90K mile car. Well, only 136k. :) I'm pretty regular with the leather treatment, and I use a moistened sponge instead of a rag to apply it, since the sponge is less abrasive and frays the stitching less. When getting into or out of the car, I'm careful to lift myself out or maneuver in such a way that I'm not always brushing my portly posterior against the bolsters. Hmm, this is all starting to make me sound pretty anal about my seats... Oh wait - I am! - Chris (whose 95 M3 has also enjoyed a sun-free garage for the last four years)

IMO, it's an internet myth that 95 M3s have flangeless bushings. IIRC, it is only non M-cars with 'em. Roger

I installed a Rogue SSK and am much happier with that set-up. The MZ3 lever requires more force because it's not working at the right angle. Back when Ben was at UUC (before starting up Rogue) he had a graphic that illustrated it.
