#1. Cold start problem - from Allen Hyman

It turns over and catches, but 'stumbles' for the first 30-40 seconds. I cleaned the air filter but I'm not sure what to do next. It exhibits the problem every time it sits for a long period, like overnite or all day at work. As long as it is warm, it starts with no problems. Just out of warranty, Thanks for the help. Don't know if it claims higher cooling capacity or not. - PWR ($455 from absoluteradiator.com). Measurably higher cooling capacity but substantially larger size with some fitment issues that come from that. These aren't really a problem as long as, unlike me, you don't turn out to be the acting unpaid beta tester, and therefore know about them beforehand. (Mark, contact me off-Digest if you'd like to know more about the PWR). - Unknown make ($460 from http://www.zionsvilleautosport.com). Claims higher cooling capacity, very attractive price. I haven't seen one and it's brand new. Having said all of which, in my opinion you really need an oil cooler to keep engine temps in check under track use. Neil 96 M3

#3. My E36M3 is now for sale - from Scott Watters

With two kids a two door just isn't in the cards for me any longer. Don't I wish that BMW was making a 4 door E46M3. But since they don't, I'm about a month away from delivery of my new 2004 Audi S4 Avant. Yes I'm a defector for the moment. You can see and read about my car at http://www.watters.org/bmw/bmw.html. In short it's a 10/95 Avus/Dove M3/2 with 90K miles. Never tracked or autocrossed, no accidents, excellent maintenance record at Dinan Engineering in Mountain View. The only non-stock parts are the BL/SS kit with ERK, Conforti chip, and the Pioneer/MBQuart stereo. I'm asking $16,950 OBO and the car is located in Los Gatos, CA. email scott@watters.org for more info. Thanks! Scott

I don't feel like checking to see whether the aux fan control circuit changed between years, so will reserve comment on that. > The reason I checked this is @ the track yesterday after about 6-8 laps, in > high 90's, the water temperature went up to the white line. The important thing to understand is that the presence, absence, or correct functioning of either the engine-driven cooling fan or the aux electric fan won't meaningfully affect your cooling at speed, and therefore on track. It is the car's forward motion that provides the main airflow through the radiator under those circumstances. If your car was running hotter than other similar cars at the same event, you need to check the cooling system's basic components: thermostat, radiator, water pump. In addition the A/C condenser is in front of the radiator, so if it's crudded up then airflow will be impeded. A leaking head gasket will also cause the car to run hot. You'd need a compression or leakdown test to verify that. Neil 96 M3

Mark, Can't speak to "other options" - but on Friday I just recieved the Fluidyne I purchased from Bimmerworld. It's getting installed tomorrow, weather willing. Definatly looks to be worth the price paid from the outside. All aluminum, very sharp looking. Easily worth +5 HP based on looks alone ;) But seriously, Bimmerworld's Fluidyne solution came strongly recommended to me as well, and that's definately the direction I've gone. I will be sending in a full write-up post install tomorrow, again weather willing... It's a car I'd consider if I had/wanted to get rid of my '98 M3 sedan (I don't at the moment, but I am a sucker for new cars, so who knows :-)). Anyway, sorry to hear you're leaving the BMW-fold. #7. URGENT Help (Please): Fan Staying on?? - from twisty M3

I heard it going last night, but figured it must just be hot and that it would eventually shut off on it's own. No dice! Went to run some errands right now and the car was completely dead! Hooked some jumper cables up and the fan immediately started, but the car wouldn't turn over for about a minute. Then it started right up, and I'm now letting it run in hopes to recharge completely, but I have a feeling the fan will stay on again. What to do??? Please help. ;) Jonathan L. _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. #8. more on aftermarket seats... - from Bruce
Top
Date: Sun, 20 Jul 2003 21:04:02 -0500 From: "Bruce" <gobuffs93@comcast.net> Subject: more on aftermarket seats... If you recall, a few months ago I was asking how to mount a Sparco America seat to my car. I had some requirements I needed fulfilled. 1) still use stock seat belts (and seat belt pretensioner), 2) side mounts so I change height if need be, and 3) use sliders. I tried a base that was told should work (has been used on E36 race cars, but not using stock seatbelts). It doesn't because the seatbelt mechanism and the tranny tunnel are trying to use the same space. I tried to move the mount holes over but the slider mount holes and the mounts to the floor and in the same spot. I have been told the TC Kline mount only works with Recaros. Has anybody successfully done what I am trying to do (see above 3 requirements) with a Sparco (specifically Sparco America) seat? I want a bit more headroom! Am I asking too much? Expect 3+ DE events or Solo 1s from them. 2 of the tires have a fair amount of track time and will only be good for another day. $450 for all 10. I've seen there brkts for other cars and while they no works of art, they are perfectly functional and have had the inboard lap belt mounting point on the brkt. I was going to call them later today since they are in California once they are open (EST for me). http://www.europeancarweb.com/projectcars/0210ec_projectbmw/ www.gmpperformance.com/products/interior_parts/seats/sparcomounts/Wedg20 02list.pdf Wedge engineering (562) 633-1663 Anybody else out there with Wedge experience?
