Well, that might be pushing it a bit - after all, the 330i PP is about 100 hp down vs. the E46 M3. But I suspect it's close in performance to the E36 M3 sedan, while offering all the benefits of the newer E46 chassis. A friend and I installed Koni coilovers (from TC Kline) on a 330i PP last Friday. Driving it afterwards I found that it's one of those deceptively fast cars, quiet enough that you don't realize how fast you're going until you check the speedo. However the 330i PP engine does have distinctly less torque below 4000 rpm than my 3.2. I had thought that the double-VANOS might make up for the capacity difference, but apparently not. Love the Alcantara seats, and especially the steering wheel. In fact I'd pay good money to have my wheel recovered in real or fake suede. Anyone know of a place for that? OTOH it's probably cheaper to get a MOMO wheel, but then you lose the SRS. Neil 96 M3

Unlike some other cars the E36 doesn't have a fan that should be able to run with the engine off. You may have welded contacts in one of the fan relays. While the fan is running abnormally, try in turn pulling and replacing first relay #15 (low speed), then #13 (high speed). If the fan stops with one of these out, replace that relay. They're readily available and inexpensive. If this doesn't do it your M3 may require more intensive therapy. IMPORTANT NOTE: Wiring and many other details differ from year to year. Everyone, please give the model year when asking technical questions. Neil 96 M3 - see!

It's not nearly as reproducible as it is for you, and sometimes it will go for months without doing it. Sometimes it will start and run so rough that I need to apply throttle to keep it running. Eventually, in 30 seconds or so, it seems to clear itself out. Replacing the VANOS about 20k miles ago didn't seem to make a difference. I'm not quite sure what to make of it, but it doesn't happen often enough to be a serious issue for me. - Chris

Do you mean it's actually hard to start - i.e. you have to crank the starter for some while before the engine catches - or that it starts quickly but doesn't run well for 30-40 seconds? Your subject says one thing, the description another. If it's the first, then you may have fault in one of the sensors (e.g. coolant temp sensor) that tell the ECU to enrich the fuel supply for a cold start. Your dealer can pinpoint this via the electronics. If it's the latter, then this is very common with the M3, and doesn't seem to have a well-defined cause, at least that I've heard of. Solution: wait 30-40 seconds before pulling away ;) May be worth a dealer visit in either case. Neil 96 M3

Date: Sun, 20 Jul 2003 21:04:02 -0500 From: "Bruce" <gobuffs93@comcast.net> Subject: more on aftermarket seats... If you recall, a few months ago I was asking how to mount a Sparco America seat to my car. I had some requirements I needed fulfilled. 1) still use stock seat belts (and seat belt pretensioner), 2) side mounts so I change height if need be, and 3) use sliders. I tried a base that was told should work (has been used on E36 race cars, but not using stock seatbelts). It doesn't because the seatbelt mechanism and the tranny tunnel are trying to use the same space. I tried to move the mount holes over but the slider mount holes and the mounts to the floor and in the same spot. I have been told the TC Kline mount only works with Recaros. Has anybody successfully done what I am trying to do (see above 3 requirements) with a Sparco (specifically Sparco America) seat? I want a bit more headroom! Am I asking too much?

The last I heard was there was a big backorder for the shocks, but there has also been some other news that they were revising the part due to some failure. The old part number I have for our cars was VE3-4237-HO. I was able to search Bilsteins site and the below are the part numbers they are now stating fit our cars. Any list sponsors care to pitch in? I need to get a new suspension, but don't want the old if the new is due out. Thanks, Rob Make: BMW Model: M3 (E36 chassis) Year: 95-99 Blank: SP Front: VE3-4238(R) Rear: BE5-2453

#8. Turner Motorsport Rocks - from DocWyte

Date: Mon, 21 Jul 2003 12:50:35 -0700 (PDT) From: DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> Subject: Turner Motorsport Rocks Just thought I'd drop a note about my experience with Turner Motorsport. I already had the JC intake/hfm/chip on my '95 M3. I'd recently bought a set of the 24lb injectors and had a ltw flywheel installed. I was interested in getting the matching JC chip. So I called them up and asked them if they had an "upgrade" path for chips. To my surprise they said they did. You buy the new chip and when you send them your old one back, they credit you $150. So the new chip only costs $100. I explained what I wanted to do, then asked if I bought cams from them in the future could I get a cams chip? The response was yes, send in your old chip and the new cams chip will be an additional $100!! So I got my 24lb/hfm/ltw flywheel chip and sent the old one back. They promptly creditted me the $150 and I'm all set. Awesome service! -josh ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month! http://sbc.yahoo.com
