Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2003 15:59:59 -0400 From: "JUSTIN GERRY" <JGERRY@butchers.com> Subject: Radiator Replacement A few questions: 1) When swapping over the expansion tank to the new radiator, according to the TIS it says to replace a couple of o-ring gaskets. Is this necessary? 2) Any tricks to refilling the cooling system to make sure the air is out of the system? Thanks, Justin -- '76 02 '97 m3 bmw cca checkout http://www.bmw2002.net

Also, the pedals and steering are too light, the gas pedal acts as if it is connected to the engine with a rubber band, and since there is no LSD, switch off the ASC and burn gobs of expensive rubber via one axle. Definitely a nice looking interior and exterior though. I have been very unimpressed with all of the E46's that I've driven, especially given the prices they are asking and unbelievably getting for these things. Perhaps these features will seem "right" when they are around $20k in a few years. I seriously considered and extensively test drove a 330iPP. I had also been shopping for a M3/4 for the past year. Needless to say, a 98 M3/4 now sits in the garage. R. Benefits of the E46 chassis? I have driven several E46 cars, although not the PP. All have felt heavy and soft compared to my '95 M3, and the driver is far more insulated from everything the car is doing. But what troubles me the most about the PP is that it doesn't come with a limited slip dif. How do BMW engineers sleep at night with the guilt of trying to pass off that over-weight, one-wheel drive, sensory deprivation tank as a sports sedan? Thanks, I feel much better now... At the risk of going even further off-topic - Anyone drive a new RX-8 yet? I know that there was some talk about Performance radiators http://www.performanceradiator.com Their pricing seems good, but don't know about their performance or reliability. Has anyone BTDT? Is this necessary? Justin, FWIW, I had reused the gaskets last summer on both E36s. No leaks on either one. > 2) Any tricks to refilling the cooling system to make sure the > air is out of the system? The air bleeder screw is on top of the radiator's expansion tank. To make it work better, raise the nose of the car. Open the screw. Fill her up with coolant until fluid starts spilling from the bleeder hole. Close the screw and start the car. Set the heater to max heat and run in until the thermostat opens. Add coolant as necessary. Just in case, keep a quart of distilled water in your car for a few days. HTH, alex f

Bruce Shafer" <mzealot@bellsouth.net> Subject: New To The List I thought I had better introduce myself since I just made my first post to the list, even though I have been on the list for sometime. I recognize quite a few folks from some of the other lists that I am a member of. I'm currently on my second E36 M3, first was a '95, latest is a '98 4 door. I also have an E36 ITS car that I race in SCCA Impoved Touring in the SouthEast. Last year was a tough year on engines (3 destroyed) so this thing has spent the better part of the year in the trailer in solitary confinement. Hopefully I'll get it running by Thanksgiving '03. I am in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL area, Everglades chapter of BMW CCA. R. Bruce Shafer

I've been meaning to stop by their shop and take a look at one in person. I'm going to be replacing my radiator very soon, probably with the Zionsville piece; however, I think we need ten people to get a $30 discount. Personally, this isn't a big enough incentive for me to buy one right now when it will most likely sit in my house for a few months before I get around to putting it in (the last thing I need is more parts sitting around). There are a couple of alternatives. I think James at Bimmerworld has some Fluidyne units and Neil Maller tried a "do-it-yourself" PWR? unit. I think PWR is updating their design. There may be others. #9. Gunked ABS sensors? - from Steve Klein
Top
Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2003 16:26:40 -0700 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Gunked ABS sensors? Hello, All- I've had a condition for a while on my '95 where under even moderately aggressive braking the ABS kicks on while on hot pavement with warm tires. I can hear a few tire chirps and the ABS, and the car feels like I'm braking on ice or snow. I just got the car back from the shop where I had the lines replaced with Stop Tech braided stainless and the system flushed and filled with ATE Super Blue. The pedal feel is nice and firm again, but the ABS problem persists. The car has 123k miles, and I should add that there is absolutely no pull to one side or the other under braking and no abnormal vibes or otherwise in the steering wheel or suspension, for that matter. So, I'm wondering if the sensors are just gunked up and removing the sensors at each wheel and cleaning them and the contacts could be a favorable solution. Has anyone run across this before? Thanks for your help, Steve

#10. Garage Floor sealant/paint/stain question - from Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net

Date: Wed, 23 Jul 2003 18:42:44 -0400 From: <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: Garage Floor sealant/paint/stain question I had a garage floor poured yesterday. My '96 M3's new home. I would appreciate thoughts and experience with various garage floor sealant, paint or stain. If it matters, the garage is located in MA, and it @25 x @45 (with 10' ceilings). Radiant tubing is installed in the floor (a very worthwhile project so far...... won't know how it works until winter).
