#1. RE: [CR] Fluidyne Radiators - from James Clay

Date: Mon, 28 Jul 2003 16:39:31 -0400 From: "James Clay" <james@bimmerworld.com> Subject: RE: [CR] Fluidyne Radiators I got my first taste of the new Fluidyne at the World Challenge race at Sears Point this weekend. I had the misfortune of shooting a little wide in 10 and had to choose between taking a sign out head on or risking possibly stuffing the whole car in the wall. I hit the sign perfectly centered, head on, and picked it up for the ride. I wasn't 100% sure how bad it was until I went by the pits and I was in for another lap - crew radioed in and said it was indeed there and blocking every cooling vent in the front of the car. After about halfway around the track, I finally found a reachable cornerworker to pull it off for me. The temp had just flashed 260 when I turned the car off and I was smelling coolant - a sure sign of terminal overheating. I restarted the car and after 1/2 lap, my temp was back to about 220, dropped to the normal 200 in the draft after about 1 more lap. This was after running at about 220 in similar conditions all weekend at Road Atlanta with the stock radiator on the car. These things really are awesome at pulling the temps down! Pretty much the whole car is going to get done, it was keyed and scratched all around when the bastards took the moldings. I'm looking for experiences, I'm pretty picky when it comes to paint quality and the last shop I used let me down quite badly. (clearcoat has some nastiness underneath it, etc) The car is going to be stripped because of it, which is not ideal to me, because the factory primer is baked on at a higher temperature than you can accomplish with the car assembled but there isn't much I can do about it. I'm leaning towards B-Line Body Inc, and Stanford European's body shop. Anyone have experiences with either shop? -kit ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Taylor Autosport http://www.taylorautosport.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com BMW M3 Specialties http://www.jt-designs.com Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm ************************************************* This e-mail and any attachments may contain confidential and privileged information. #5. ABS II: Another Braking Saga and Goodyear Eagle F1's - from Steve Klein
Top
Date: Mon, 28 Jul 2003 16:08:26 -0700 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: ABS II: Another Braking Saga and Goodyear Eagle F1's Hi, Gang- Sunday I pulled each ABS sensor at the wheels for inspection/ cleaning in relation to the 'premature activation' I've been experiencing under moderate braking. Right off the bat, the first sensor I pulled was covered in gunk that clung readily to the plastic body, but came right off with a can of compressed air. They were rough, ferrous particles, obviously magnetized and attracted to the pickups in the sensor itself. The 'teeth' on each hub also had some gunk in them, but it looked to be more grease and dirt than dry magnetic particles. All sensors but the driver side rear had magnetic beards. Of note is that at this time I did not unplug and clean the contacts in the harness connection box in each wheel well. After a few low speed stops, I was disappointed to find the effect still there, so I got on the highway and began using successive off and on ramps for more testing and to get some heat into the tires. After two more aggressive stops, the ABS intrusion was greatly diminished, but sometimes still present. First, is there a way to disable the ABS (without throwing lights and codes) so I can see what the tires are doing as a baseline to my diagnostics? Second, my opinion of the Goodyear Eagle F1's as a wet tire still stands. My opinion of the F1's as a dry tire is dropping significantly. I had mentioned before that it felt like a mix of ABS and actual lockup when I was braking, and some more 'exploration' of the F1's has them much less grippy than I would like. The tires have about 2K mi. on them and they replaced a set of Pilot Sports, which had good levels of grip over broad temps. Even at low speeds, I can make an aggressive turn (smooth, though. always smooth :?D) and have the front end push immediately, and sometimes frighteningly. Thanks for all your input so far, and I'm thankful to hear any other Ideas or suggestions you might have. Steve

With some sadness, I am replacing my 98 M3/4 with an 03 330iPP. A little softer ride, perhaps, but I will certainly miss the M3 kick in the ass! Can you, or anybody here, direct me to a/the E46 330i list? Thank you, all. Carl

I am planning on renting the tools from Brett A., but I would gladly rent elsewhere if someone could recommend a good source (Chester Wong?). Please e-mail me any installation tips and/or instructions (if any exist), and I will be highly appreciative. I have searched through the archives and seen a few posts on the subject, but have not come up with anything concrete. Please, any and all information on the subject will be extremely helpful.
