I installed the Zionsville all alloy radiator this past weekend. So far so good, and the fit was exactly like stock. No issues at all during the install (true drop in). My car took 3 gallons of coolant, which is I think 1 gallon more than stock. I'll have a more comprehensive writeup with pics posted to my website, hopefully in about a week or so. No affiliation, just a happy end user. -Justin -- '76 02 '97 m3 bmw cca checkout http://www.bmw2002.net

I'm no expert, but what I said was mostly distilled from a lot of classroom discussion/analysis at a rainy DE last year after somebody wrecked. I can see the point about being more likely to stay on the track if the ABS is working but I don't know if it outweighs the experience some people have had after going off -- the "wild ride" as the ABS attempts to do its job (it *can* happen, but perhaps doesn't always from what you guys have experienced), that sickening sensation of having absolutely nothing happen when you step on the brakes... (the Stoptech big-brake article basically tells you why, btw) My $0.02 is just that, but I guess I've seen, experienced, and talked enough about it that I'm more comfortable without ABS. For the average street driver in the average street situation, it's a great idea. But I don't think it's unreasonable as a DE junkie or racer to aspire to and develop skills that go beyond what ABS can do for you in that average street situation. -Garrett

#3. ABS in stasis? - from Steve Klein

Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2003 11:49:47 -0700 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: ABS in stasis? So, ceteris paribus, is the general consensus that pulling the relay will disable the ABS without tripping faults? Another had mentioned pulling the black plug on the actual ABS unit itself. I still get the ABS kicking at what seems to be the limits of the tires (which is what I wish to check), but my initial cleaning of the sensors has greatly improved the condition. Lots of stick and stop now. Thanks in advance, Steve On Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at 12:23 PM, Ron Buchalski wrote: > I know of a few people who pull out the ABS relay for DE events, to > prevent ABS from engaging. Who makes the best HID and where can I get them at good price? I have ZKW euro lights at the moment, so I just need the HID kit. I thought there were some fitment issues discussed on the E36M3 list? If not, please correct me and please someone else confirm before they get labeled as poor fitting. There is no point trying to plan to be in control in an out-of-control situation. I doubt whether ABS or not would have played a significant factor in the wreck at the DE that you mentioned. Hard unfeeling suspensions, poor rain tires, cement patches, oil and other fluids rising to the surface are a few more reasons for wrecks. At a DE, a driver that is beyond his mental, physical and experienced limits will have a wreck. Slow down, feel the car and drive home. I'm not sure why BMW continues spec the Bosch FGR8KQC for the S52 but went NGK across the board for M52 engines. Anyway, prior to the switch, even brand new FGR8KQC's had a somewhat uneven idle but that's not the case with the NGK's.....after 20K miles on them the idle is still smooth. Pulled them about 5K miles back and they looked great! The NGK are a bit more $$ than the Bosch and I switched just to try something different........either are fine. Someone gave me three used ones with 50-75% tread depth (the 4th was damaged beyond repair from a bad alignment). Would prefer at least 50% tread depth, although I'd consider slightly less. Street-only tire, so patches and plugs OK (except on sidewall). Located in Pittsburgh, will pay for shipping. Thanks! Vern Anderson
