Unless you find out it's the guy next door who's building his own M3 one piece at a time, it strikes me that you're likely to end up with a bunch of shadowy pix of unknown people. Then what? A motion detector alarm seems like a good idea, maybe even one with a remote pager. Neil 96 M3

#3. Radiators - UPDATE - from Mark Dadgar
Top
Date: Mon, 04 Aug 2003 15:35:26 -0700 From: Mark Dadgar <mark@pdc-racing.net> Subject: Radiators - UPDATE So to recap, I was having overheating problems with my 325is race car. In 104 degree ambient conditions, I was seeing up to 245 degrees on the VDO water temp gauge (sender spliced into the upper radiator hose using a GReddy adapter). Ramon LeFrancios at Bavarian Motorsport discovered that the S54-equipped M-Roadsters and M-Coupes have a 3-row radiator that bolts into an E36 in the stock 2-row radiator's place. The distributor cost on this BMW unit is about $250, which is at least $200 cheaper than any of the all-aluminum options. It's noticeably thicker that the stock unit. So I put one in, along with a 71 degree t-stat. At Thunderhill over the weekend, in ambient temps of 95 degrees or so, I never saw over 190 on the water temp gauge. So even correcting for the difference in ambient temps, that's a 45 degree drop in water temps! Hard to argue with for $250. It still has a plastic neck, but it should be good for 50K miles, which is a hell of a lot of races and track days! - Mark -- mark@pdc-racing.net

The front bumper is VERY easy to remove. I can do it in less than 2 minutes blindfolded. Hmmmmm.... That reminds me, my front bumper has a few rock chips. Otherwise, I have no clue if the wiring is there for the heaters in a car that wasn't that way from the factory, but I'd assume (dangerous thing to do) that the seat tracks are physically compatible. With that said, the E36 is obviously long past those points, and I agree that an E36 M3 PSS9 is extremely unlikely. #7. Water leak/cracks in fire wall in cowl area on tracked e36s? - from GGeick6055@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 4 Aug 2003 20:36:16 EDT From: GGeick6055@aol.com Subject: Water leak/cracks in fire wall in cowl area on tracked e36s? I am having a very irritating, expensive and time consuming problem with water leaking on to the floor around where the heater box comes thru the fire wall behind the center console. I removed the rubber cowl drains and working from the cowl area my mechanic pushed back the heater box and placed silicone under the foam seal where the box passes thru the fire wall. It now leaks worse, the foam seal below the heater box is wet inside the car as before with a major leak on the floor. The windshield seal is probably fine. Any welds that open up in this area? Where do the cracks develop in the fire wall on cars that are tracked? Major PITA to dry the car out! Thanks, Gordon Geick

Namely, we changed the extended length of the rear shocks to allow more droop compared to the German application, therefore maintain better contact at the drive wheels under cornering. These have been run on an E36 M3 in Street Mod locally over the past year good results. The build date is scheduled for November. So, looks like this winter we may have inventory on the new kits." Hope that helps, Robert

I highly doubt that you are experiencing leaking through the firewall. It is most likely a bad heater core and/or leaks from where the pipes (3) in the engine bay mate to those of the heater core. In between, there is a plastic piece that the pipes on each end insert into and each pipe has a rubber sealing washer. I would suspect this as the culprit. BTW, it a major PITA to access this area nevermind replace the rubber washers unless you have miniature hands. Good luck.
