Disregard my earlier comments on HPS and reapply those comments to HP+. HP+ do squeal, do dust, hold up to track sessions, and like a little warmth for extra bite. I don't know anything about HPS. Dust (or lack of it) was much better than the pagids (blue) or jurids and they stopped nicely. Speaking of brake dust, I do not recall this issue being discussed much but for those of you who run the PF97s (90s? anyway the new compound) do not leave the brake dust sitting on your wheels. A few months back I drove home from Thunderhill with the PFs on the car and then just parked the car for a week or so and by the time I got around to cleaning up the car and changing back to street pads the brake dust had solidified into some indestructible compound. Obviously the morning dew was enough moisture to interact with the dust on the wheels. It took many hours and I probably turned my driveway into a superfund site to get the studff off my wheels and essentially a nic e set of SSR comps are now cosmetically toast. I have heard of this problem with regard to Hawk Blues but I had never heard of it with the pagids so I thought I would pass along the warning. jeff 98 M3/4 - with thrashed wheels > Date: Tue, 5 Aug 2003 00:27:43 EDT > From: Msebmwman@aol.com > Subject: Hawk HPS pads for street: anyone here use? any squealing issues? > > Hi all; > > I'm interested in using Hawk HPS pads as an aggressive street pad. #3. Check engine light and fuel octane - from Rodriguez, Jorge PDO

I used Octane additive for the track tankfull. All fuel used up and I filled up with Shell 91 octane (no Chevron close enough). Check engine light came on after refueling. I read somewhere that octane changes may make the light come on. Any words of wisdom are appreciated before I take it to the dealer for the codes to be read. I am lucky enough that they won't charge a full hour of labor on this. Regards, Jorge

Date: Mon, 04 Aug 2003 18:32:13 -0400 From: eevans@planetc.com Subject: '95 M3 Jim C., Intake, Euro HFM, etc. FS Anyone interested in a used Jim C., cold air intake w/ the larger Euro HFM, Huge ITG filter, heat shield, reducer and chip? All parts are in great condition, no moving parts to wear, used for about 2 years or 16K miles. Obviously only fits '95 M3s w/ OBD l. Everything included plus installation instructions. Takes about an hour to install if you've never opened your computer before, less time if you've done it. Jim C., says a '95 M3 dynoed w/ his kit at around 270+ hp, I felt the increase in power immediately. Very noticeable increase in power. I think it's currently selling for around $995, make me a serious offer (please be realistic) and experience the extra power the '95s lacked. Best bolt on for the buck! I think they referred to them as seat vests. Nice fit because you don't lose the side bolsters as in a full coverage sheep skin cover. Phone # is 800-883-7278. They are unusual in that they are only 'inserts', as opposed to full covers. I'm hoping someone will be able to point me to a vendor where I could order a pair. Suzy was kind enough to post the picture to the website, so that I could include a link instead. Here is the cover in reference... http://www.bmw-m.net/images/seatcover.jpg Does anyone know a source of these??? TIA, Tucker Ryals Gainesville, FL

Pretty reasonable price as well, and they're feather light. I'm thinking about picking up a set of 4 to run on all corners. I've been using the R4S for tens of thousands of miles now, and not had squealing problems. Not on a regular basis anyway. They'll occasionally squeal, but not annoyingly, and much less than my stock pads did. One caveat to this info, however, is that I also swap pads back and forth from street to track at least once per month. I still have built up Brake Quite goop on the R4S and usually smear some anti-seize on the connecting points every time I reinstall them, but if they do make more noise for others than what I've experienced, I would pretty much guarantee that a nice coating of that fancy pink Brake Quiet anywhere the backing plates meet metal will solve the problem (if you wait for it to get nice 'n tacky before reinstalling). Just my experience however, and somewhat skewed by the number of times the pads are on and off my car. Jonathan L. >From: Mark Dadgar <mark@pdc-racing.net> > >Don't get the Porterfield R4S pads. #11. Thanks for Hawk HPS feedback - from Msebmwman@aol.com
Top
Date: Tue, 05 Aug 2003 15:14:46 -0400 From: Msebmwman@aol.com Subject: Thanks for Hawk HPS feedback All; Thanks for the HPS feedback. I know that my current pads are HP+ pads as the box indicates that and bimmerworld sold them as that. My HP+ pads do have clips for both front and rear. I had asked prior to purchase because I don't like rattling pads on a street car since it sounds like the car is going to fall apart as I go over bumps etc. I think I'll give HPS a go from bimmerworld (a list sponsor) and see how those suit me in my SoCal environment. I just started using Hawk HT10 for the track out here and they are working fine for me so far. Consistent, good initial bite, easy modultion, take the heat, no warping yet, and no pad material deposition on my rotors. Best regards, Marc Buy my M3 LTW, really, please.....
