Impact sockets definitely won't fit, but >my Snap-On deep regular sockets work fine and I'm using 19mm nuts on the >studs. The torque involved is so low that you don't need an impact socket. I actually had to go out and buy a socket specially just for these dang wheels. The thinnest one I could find just barely fit but it's a 3/8" drive so I have to use an adaptor for the breaker bar/torque wrench. I've heard others complain too (E30 KP guys mostly) about the same thing. Mine are 15x7's so maybe they did a better job with the spacing on the 17's. Incidentally, I was talking with the Tire Rack about these wheels and they get them from Japan without any lug holes in them. When they get enough orders they send them out to a machine shop that drills the holes in batches. So if you need a set of these in a hurry you might not get them until the queue builds up. Shane K. Hudson" <jwhud@cdsnet.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Hawk HPS pads for street: anyone here use? any I've been using Porterfield R4-S pads on my '97 M3/2 for over a year and a half, including one HPDE. I've never had any noise from them. My last 2 track days I switched to the R4 pads. Even driving several hundred miles to and from the track, I got very little noise from the R4 pads. If it weren't for the fact that they're track pads and would chew up rotors in a hurry, I could put up with the small amount of noise year around. FWIW, I'm running Euro floaters and use a heavy coat of the Permatex spray-on anti squeel goop. Obviously, YMMV. I must be doing something wrong ;-) But, I have nothing but good stuff to say about Porterfields. It wasn't necessary on my car, but if this does happen to you, here's how to reinitialize the windows. Put the key in the ignition to the "on" position. Close all doors. (this is important!) Roll each window all the way down, then all the way up, holding down the button for at least 5 seconds once the window is fully closed. You have to do each window individually. This should reset the one touch feature for you. -josh --- Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> wrote: > Date: Wed, 06 Aug 2003 08:05:49 -0500 > From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> > Subject: Re: Install instructions for Momo steering > wheel and bypassing SRS > > on 8/6/03 5:25 AM, DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> > wrote: > > > A few people asked me to write something up on how > to > > install a momo steering wheel. #5. Coolant and Oil Radiators - from Neil Maller
Top
Date: Wed, 06 Aug 2003 10:02:50 -0500 From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> Subject: Coolant and Oil Radiators I've recently read in two other places that someone has figured out that the coolant radiator from the S54 engine (dual VANOS) version of the M-Coupe is a 3-row, vs. the stock E36 2-row, and is a drop-in replacement. This offers a stock-based higher capacity main cooling solution for people who don't want to pay the freight for an all aluminum radiator. (Note that the M Coupe radiator still has the mixed plastic/metal construction.) The part number is 17-11-2-227-281, and I see that it's the same radiator used in the Euro E36 M3. I haven't tried or examined this part myself, so can't vouch for the interchangeability and am simply passing on received info. This may open up the possibility of more easily mounting the oil cooler setup from the M Coupe, which is also the same P/N as the Euro E36 M3: Oil radiator 17-21-2-244-083 Oil hose assembly 17-21-2-227-235 Oil filter assembly with cooler ports 11-42-1-404-206 (Various other miscellaneous parts would also be needed.) I've been using the HPS pads on my M3 and 525iT, and have had very minor issues with an occasional squeal. I put plastilube on the backing plates. They've been on my 525iT for 18 months, and 35k miles, and I've taken them off once during that time to re-apply plastilube. Date: Wed, 6 Aug 2003 10:21:57 -0700 From: Jim Bassett <jim@jimbassett.com> Subject: Nearly-free brake pads (was: Hawk pads) Speaking of Hawk pads, I have a certificate from Tire Rack for one free axle set of Hawk pads (HPS, HP+, SuperDuty). I'm not in need of pads right now and the certificate expires 8/31. If someone wants a set of pads, I'll order them and they're yours for the cost of shipping (certificate is non-transferrable), or pick 'em up from me if you're in the SF Bay Area. Also, I have a set of F & R Pagid street pads, used. I haven't measured them yet but there's at least half the pad remaining. They are FREE if you pick 'em up in Pleasant Hill or Milpitas, or cover shipping. (I gotta clear a little garage space for the stuff I've been buying in the post-finally-got-a-job spending spree :-)) Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP/A5 ....a couple of VERY happy cars, now :-)

The Hawk pads are GONE. Thanks for the responses everybody. The Pagids are still available. If no one wants them, they're getting thrown out. Save our landfill! :-) Jim Bassett
