Date: Thu, 28 Aug 2003 12:35:39 -0700 From: Jay <rx3sp@lanset.com> Subject: Tying down e36 From my experience, I absolutely HATE those t-hooks. There are several problems with them, the main one being that if one tiedown breaks or comes loose, the other t-hook can slip out, especially if you crossed the tiedowns. I also am a big advocate of restricting the movement of the chassis during towing. I have seen several shocks, of different makes, that have been ruined during towing (during rebound). The drag race guys, (who don't exactly put a lot of miles on their shocks, and I would say the shocks are more important on a roadrace car,) use big fat airbags under their racecars to prevent shock movement. I tie down to the hole in the front control arm, and hook on to the rear sway bar at the corner, uncrossed, with 4 shiny new tiedown straps. I am very happy and secure with this. I buy new tiedowns about every two years. Jay Morris -- Using M2, Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/m2/

I actually was able to use the male plug on the factory horn to use with the factory female plug, no splicing necessary. I mounted the horns pretty much inside the front bumper as I have little room elsewhere with the supercharger. Very clean install and easier than I expected. If anyone wants pics or information please feel free to ask. Thanks to Chris for assistance. Oh yeah, the horns are distinctively louder but at a pitch thats sounds kinda funny. I cant wait to need to use them. Alex "HyperM3" Demsky 92 S/C M3 ~ http://hometown.aol.com/hyperm3/Bimmer.html

#7. A/C woes - from ajvdh1@comcast.net
Top
Date: Thu, 28 Aug 2003 21:53:31 +0000 From: ajvdh1@comcast.net Subject: A/C woes I think my A/C is getting sick. The car is a '95 M3 with 65k miles. Here's what's happened: I was at an autocross on Sunday. On hot days, I like to cool my helmet before a run by turning the A/C on full, and holding it in front of the center vent. This worked fine at an event just a month ago when it was almost 100 degrees. Sunday it was about 90 degrees, and instead of the usual constant blast of cold air, I'd get cool air for less than a minute, then the compresser would switch off and the air would get pretty darn warm. Just in the nature of an experiment, on the way home I turned the A/C on. While cruising through traffic, it was pretty wimpy, but after being on the interstate for 15 minutes, it got nice and cold again. Cold enough that I had to dial the fan back to "2" to be comfortable. I didn't drive the car again until yesterday, and I noticed the same pattern - sitting in traffic, the A/C is close to useless, yet just a few minutes at speed and it seems to work pretty well. So, am I looking at some kind of thermal or pressure switch, leaking refrigerant (not R15 thank goodness), something else, or all of the above? - Alain -- "1 2 3 4!" - Johnny "Gabba gabba hey!" - Joey

Date: Thu, 28 Aug 2003 18:32:59 -0400 From: KLchmn@aol.com Subject: Re: Juan's broken hose...was tie downs John asked about the Nurburgring school. Let's just say that Juan collected all his coolant in a nice, big, shiny trophy! Hopefully he mopped up the rest with that red shirt he wore to the banquet. :-) Both Juan and I (and several other west coasters) had a pretty good showing at the school. Lots of hardware in the luggage. Just don't ask me how I did at Brunchen on my graded lap. Apparently, I was quite the topic of discussion with the local spectators. At least my right wheels were "on-line" although they were where the left wheels were supposed to be (on the exit of the second right hander for those that know the track). If you haven't done the school (and are at least a B student), you should. It is an amazing track. Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock

Actually, I converted your long url, which wrapped and truncated on my Outlook, into a "tinyurl." If you click it, it will take you to your referenced BFC thread. The tinyurl site is pretty handy for transferring long urls through messages and postings. The downside is that you can't directly see where you are going. http://tinyurl.com/livj - to get to James Clay's bimmerforums.com carbon cover group buy thread. Murray
