#5. question about bushings - from Hunt Hodgetts
Top
Date: Mon, 1 Sep 2003 18:40:22 -0700 (PDT) From: Hunt Hodgetts <hhodgetts@yahoo.com> Subject: question about bushings I was inspecting my 97 M3 Coupe with 122k miles this weekend for an upcoming driver's school at Road Atlanta. One of the bushings on my rear control arm has a small tear. I figure it's a good time to replace all my bushings with urethane bushings. I found some bushing kits for the rear subframe and one for the rear trailing arms but was wondering if anyone sells a complete set of urethane bushings for the entire suspension?? Also, I'm assuming urethane bushings are superior to rubber because of increased durability. Is this correct? Since I use my car as a daily driver, are there any negative side affects I should be aware of such as a harsh ride, constant squeaking noises, etc? Thanks, Hunt __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com

#6. ABS documentation - from David Holeman
Top
Date: Tue, 2 Sep 2003 09:47:29 -0400 From: "David Holeman" <dHoleman@racepad.com> Subject: ABS documentation Hi, I am looking for any documentation on a lesser known ABS pump system. If you look on a 2000 or earlier TIS/ETK you will not find this part number (maybe it is on later ones). Anyway, BMW sporadically used an ABS pump that had a built in recirculation system. The more common pumps recycled fluid through the brake fluid resevoir (has two feeds hooked to blue cloth wrapped tubing that feed to the pump). With this pump the recirculation is self contained and the resevior is not needed. In looking at the TIS there is a good description of the more common system with diagrams and so on. I am seeking documentation on the lesser known system. My hope is that someone with a newer TIS may have this information or someone might have access to the BMW microfiches that may go into more detail about this system. (34-51-1-164-095 BMW part number) (10.2003 0068.4 ATE part number) Any help here is appreciated. David Holeman On the older TIS the document that describes the more common ABS system is under an E36 (any year), I found it under the SI documentation when I selected the ABS/ASC sub system of the graphic menu. The title of this document is SBT ABS - Teves Mark IV. Maybe a new TIS has expanded this document or there is a newer one.

#7. the HID plunge - from Robert Manger
Top
Date: Tue, 2 Sep 2003 11:22:49 -0400 From: "Robert Manger" <Robert_Manger@Mastercard.com> Subject: the HID plunge Reid, I was in your situation about 3 weeks ago after hearing about the NHSTA issue with the use of retro fit kits for HID's. So before the law went into effect I purchased a set from Eurospeed since I missed out on the deal Umnitza was offering (aka Matt G). I purchased the Catz HID kit H1 bulbs 4500K. It was very easy to install and the light that is put out is amazing. Best of all no low beam failure codes. I considered the a Phillip's based kit, but did not hear very good things about some of the kits out there and Matt G was beyond reproach and finding me another retailer that had the catz kit since he was out. I would recommend the Catz route, but you may have problems locating sellers in the US due to the new law as of Aug 15th. Most likely you can go to Canada to get the product though. YOu should expect to spend around $500+ or so given you want the 6000k kit. HTH, Rob -------------------- 3 -------------------- Date: Fri, 29 Aug 2003 17:18:56 -0700 From: Reid Conti <reid@conti.net> Subject: the HID plunge OK, I think I'm finally ready to dive in. I've lusted after HIDs for almost 2 years now, and even though I can't really afford it much better now than I could then, I think it's finally time.. :) And yes, I have ZKW ellipsoids already.. So here's my question. Which kit is best in terms of installation and quality (I do NOT want a low beam failure message, in other words...)? Phillips? Who best to buy from, and at what price? The cheaper the better, but I realize it's gonna set me back a bit. I think I'd prefer a 6000k kit. Anybody got a nice functional kit that they want to let go for cheap? :) anyway, yeah, what's the best way to go? Thanks for your input.. I'm hoping after a few years of trial and error, there is some kind of consensus. - reid

It is not locked up, just engaged. I hear/feel a brake pad and rotor rubbing and have one hot rotor. Any suggestions for when I get home? Brake line? Caliper? Thanks in advance, Paul Smith 98 M3/4

#9. Looking for a source for new leather for my seats... - from Chamberlain, Jesse
Top
Date: Tue, 2 Sep 2003 16:20:46 -0400 From: "Chamberlain, Jesse" <jchamb06@harris.com> Subject: Looking for a source for new leather for my seats... I have the regular 3 series sport seats (same as the Lux seats in M3's) in my car (1993 325i 4 door), and as they are getting pretty worn @ 145K miles, I am looking into replacing the leather seat covers in the front (and possible the rear). Has anyone ever done this? If so, where did you buy the new leather seat covers? I found two different places so far, leatherseats.com and autoleathers.com (whom just came back and said they might not have a pattern for the sport seats). This is something that I would like to do myself, and would like to find a place that will sell me pre-sewn leather seat covers ready to install. I haven't yet contacted any local shops to see what they can do for me, so that is still an option. I know this is not a performance modification and really doesn't have any advantage (besides from physical appearance), but I can't stand having a beautiful car and then look inside it and have the interior leather seats look like crap. One other option is to re-dye the seats (I have the dove gray color leather), but my driver's seat side bolster is very worn. And yet another option, is to buy a set of slightly used seats in the correct color (anyone have any seats for sale, power and heated?). Thanks for any advice or help! As always, this is a great list, tons of information. Jesse Chamberlain jchamb06@harris.com

The seat covers/skins can be bought directly from BMW, and may not be as costly as you think.
