I'm just passing it along :) Yeah, but Koni says not to. How much risk do you want to take with expensive parts? Plus the impact gun on a spinning shaft gives you zero control over tightening torque. Me, I preferred to modify a a $10 Sears socket to do the job right. Neil 96 M3

In addition to being "our" advocate group against "them" on all sorts of motoring issues, they also have some really useful resource kits and referral links to support you in contesting unjustified traffic tickets. Date: Thu, 25 Sep 2003 21:12:24 EDT From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: alternative front speakers I have blown the tweeter in my drivers door 2 times in the last 2 years. The dealer replaced 2x under warranty but I'm out of warranty. This is the stock system and I can't see why the tweeter continues to blow. Any suggestions on a decent replacement for the tweeter and mid range? Shel 1998 M3

The car has 81k and could use new calipers. Question, where is the best source? Turner had them for around $165. Auto Zone has rebuilt for $69 (very surprised). I don't know that I'd go with rebuilt. Thoughts? Shel 1998 M3

They're usually familiar with the officer, but you can bank on a GOOD one actually being buddies with the judge. The offense does not matter(within reason) - if the Lawyer is buds with the Judge, you'll get off. Some lawyers will charge per hour, but in my experience (wish I didn't have any) They will usually charge $200-500. They'll quote a flat rate. I was showing up with more than one ticket- I paid $450 twice. Once got off clean from 2 tix, the other I paid the lawyer and still lost on the speeding ticket. Hometown DOES matter. Open the phone book, call the SMALLEST Law Firm ad and ask for someone to defend you in traffic court. The big boys will usually just send you packing with no info. The small shops will either take you or will know who will. If you can get a referral IN ANY WAY, do it. Friend of a friend, of a cousin, is better than a cold call- I think. In small town upstate NY, mine charges me $125 to handle it, plus of course the cost of whatever charge he negotiates it down to. If you live in the real world it's probably higher. Usually it's the same $ fine but no points, usually a non-moving violation. Overall experience with brands and models appreciated. > Recommendations also appreciated. Hi Bernardo: I used to use my Sony TRV-17 (digital miniDV camcorder) mounted directly to the rollbar via an I/O Port Racing camera mount. The stabilization is so good that you can hardly tell the car is moving unless you look at the background. Sometimes, I almost found it annoying. Friends: It doesn't look like you're really going that fast... Me: I was doing 140 right there! Friends: Yeah, right... I would highly recommend any of Sony's late model miniDV camcorders for this purpose, although one shortcoming is that miniDV tapes are only an hour long (I think there may be 90 minute versions available now?)...I hate having to remember to switch tapes several times in a track weekend, so my newer setup works better... In my Z06, I went with four small bullet color cameras, a combiner, a data telemetry system, and a mobile VCR to record the action. This is a bit off-topic, but you can view some of my four camera in-car action here: http://www.pfyc.com/z06 Look at the bottom under "Videos". I have a front cam, a rear cam, a steering wheel/shifter cam, and a pedal cam. You can actually watch heel/toe and left foot braking in some of those videos. Hope this helps, -- Brian A. Date: Fri, 26 Sep 2003 05:02:28 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] need help with springs Jim, You would ask for specifics! <vbg> With my Dinan springs, I can't really tell my M3 is lower. So I'm going to guess the threshold for noticing this is about 1/2" which agrees with Dinan's literature. With the Eibach Pros on my friend's M3, we could definitely notice a drop. So I'll guess it was about 3/4". I've seen M3's with various versions of H&R springs. All of the H&R springs definitely have more drop than the Eibachs so I would guess H&R is in the 1"+ range. My (very rough) ranking: Dinan - 1/2" Eibach Pro - 3/4" H&R Sport - 1" H&R Race - 1.5" You probably saw the note from Bruce that said H&R springs have been out of stock for over a year according to TC Kline. That was interesting news to me. I see H&R springs listed on all of the BMW tuner websites. I have no idea since I have not been shopping for springs. I see Bavarian Autosport <A HREF="www.bavauto.com">www.bavauto.com</A> lists Eibach Pro springs on their web site, albeit pricey at $295. The description says 0.8 inch drop so I may not be all wet after all. I know you will definitely like their comfortable ride. Date: Fri, 26 Sep 2003 05:57:50 -0700 From: "Jay W. Hudson" <jwhud@cdsnet.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] alternative front speakers Replacing the factory speakers with aftermarket is iffy. Factory speakers are not of standard impedence rating. And, the factory amp is designed, with internal crossovers, to work specifically with those non-standard drivers. You could install a set of aftermarket component speakers. But, the factory amp would probably be very weak and the new speakers would not perform up to their capability. There is also no full range output, from the factory amp, to feed to the external crossovers that come with the component speakers (most). BTW, the problem with repeated blowing of factory drivers could very well be the internal crossover in the factory amp. Not the driver itself. Eg., if the crossover for the tweeter is supposed to be highpass from 10K and it's sending full range to the tweeter, guess what happens to that poor tweeter? My recommendation has always been.....if you want to replace the speakers with aftermarket, you should replace the amp with an aftermarket too. And, visa-versa. They go hand in hand. If you have specific questions, feel free to contact me. Good luck.
