If you put it wrong side up (it should look like and umbrella with the edges of the washer being lower than the center) it will not bear correctly on the bottom bearing of the strut hat and will bind - esp if you hit it hard with the impact. May be causing some of your problems...it is also turning the strut shaft everytime you turn the wheel...and may account for some of your sounds. Mine made a noise but I didn't have any pulling problems. Course mine may not have been tightened as tight. Good luck. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! I am still having a difficult time getting an accurate information on replacement rotors. I see Brembo everywhere but have heard they rust easy and it shows. Any truth to that? There is a German rotor recommended Balo??? Then there is BMW's rotor that I am guessing THEY manufacture. And then Zimmerman. What is the real story. I don't track at all, it is my daily driver but I am rather aggressive. I want the performance I have had to date nothing more nothing less. Thanks Ed Frank 97 M3/4

The original pads are fine, although they dust. I've since gotten rid of them but that's a different story. The rotors will show some rust, but to get rid of it all you have to do is go out and stop. Comes right off. Over $1000 for a brake job blows me away. I'd do it for half that ;-) Jason --- Edward N Frank <enf@iglou.com> wrote: > Date: Thu, 2 Oct 2003 14:02:22 -0400 > From: "Edward N Frank" <enf@iglou.com> > Subject: Last of the Brake questions > > The quoted $1150 for the entire brake job. > > So it looks like I will be doing the job. > > I am still having a difficult time getting an > accurate information on > replacement rotors. Good for you! > I am still having a difficult time getting an accurate information on > replacement rotors. I see Brembo everywhere but have heard they rust > easy and it shows. > Any truth to that? Rust where? On the braking surface? Yeah, mine show rust after a rain or when I wash the car (not too surprising, since the rotors are *metal* :-)). But one good stop has them looking "normal". Other than that, this is a non-issue. > There is a German rotor recommended Balo??? I've used them on E30 M3s and my previous 328is. Good rotor. I've been using Brembos on the front of the M3 for *years*; absolutely no issues whatsoever. I have a set sitting in the garage waiting to be installed when the current ones get to minimum. I've also got a set of rears, but I can't recall the brand off-hand (Zimmerman?); I can check when I get home if you like. > I want the performance I have had to date nothing more nothing less. I'm with you on that one Ed. I don't mind the dust of stock pads, but want the stopping power & quietness. Jason's was a good suggestion: Contact Bimmerworld (or any of a host of BMW parts suppliers - everyone's got their favorite) and get the OEM set up. Most likely they'll be Brembo rotors, anyway. I tend to get a lot of my parts from either a local shop (Ramon at Bavarian Motorsports in Milpitas CA, FYI) or Bimmerparts.com. Bimmerparts is essentially a WorldPac distributor, which is where most of your local independent shops get their parts as well. Check out the Rogue Engineering exhaust. I have one on the race car. It's about 15 pounds lighter (IIRC) than the '95 M3 exhaust that was previously on the car, and is a bit louder but not annoyingly so (especially on a car with absolutely NO interior :-)). Well built and looks great. Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP/A5 - Disclaimer: sponsored in part by Rogue Engineering
