You won't be able to use it in a lot of places as of 2005. Still probably fine for Auto-X though. Marc Plante E36 325i, 216k Vienna, VA

#3. looking for an aftermarket steering wheel cover - from Hunt Hodgetts

Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2003 09:53:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Hunt Hodgetts <hhodgetts@yahoo.com> Subject: looking for an aftermarket steering wheel cover My 97 M3 Coupe needs a new black steering wheel cover. I have previously used and been very happy with wheel skin covers but they are uniform in circumference which might be a problem for the M3's thumb rests that are located at the 10 and 2 position. Is anyone aware if wheelskins makes a special cover for the M3 wheel or if there is another manufacturer that carries a steering wheel cover for the M3. My are worn out it appears (@65K) and won't keep the hood raised. I can't seem to figure it out by looking at it. Just when I start getting a little comfortable with this DIY stuff something like this reminds me what I DON'T know. Ed Frank 97 M3/4

After cleaning everything I could finally see how it worked. Sorry for posting in haste. I was humbled quickly by the process it took longer to write the email than it did to finally change them out. Lesson learned. Still waivering on the brakes though. Thanks, Ed Frank 97 M3/4

#8. knock sensor install problem... - from Bruce

Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2003 17:12:26 -0500 From: "Bruce" <gobuffs93@comcast.net> Subject: knock sensor install problem... How you guys can replace knock sensor #2 without taking the manifold is beyond me....however, both mine were bad so I had to take the manifold off anyway.... Without going into the nitty gritty details of all my problems (with the project, not me personally :-)....I got everything taken apart and back together again. Starting the car went fine no problems The problem is when I rev it. I get a "whoosh" sound. Sounds like an intake leak to me. It seems to be coming from the elbow that attaches the ICV to the manifold. I took everything apart again (yes I really did) thinking maybe one of the manifold gaskets moved (it didn't). That elbow isn't in there as tight as I would assume. Anybody care to comment? Intake leaks as I know from the E30 M3 are bad. How can I tell what the sound is and where it is coming from and what to do about it. Thanks, Bruce 95 M3 89 M3 2.5

Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2003 18:46:29 -0400 From: "Patrick Buthmann" <patrick@teutonic.ca> Subject: Installing aftermarket tach onto E36... Guys, I'm looking at installing an aftermarket tach (Autometer 5 inch memory tach) into my race car, and looking to skid (eventually) the entire dash panel. Anyhow, does anybody know which particular wires I need to be looking for to pick up the tach signal from the DME? And, does it need to be spliced, or can I simply disable the on-board tach, and run it that way? Thanks, Pat

Anyone got those dimensions handy? Do the speaker boxes still have to come out? TIA Kim Burgess
