My car has started to do this and I am not sure if it is a system failure, a cleaning of a sensor, or something else. Is it possible to change the brass nut type things that are embedded into the manifold? Looks like they could be pulled out and then a new one pressed in, but the ETK doesn't show a part number. #5. T'Stat and Radiator - from jeff bjerke

Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2003 21:16:51 -0400 From: "jeff bjerke" <jbjerke@charter.net> Subject: T'Stat and Radiator Getting ready to do some cooling system maintenance on my wife's 1997 M3 sedan with an automatic transmission. Two questions: 1) I ordered a t-stat and alumunim t-stat housing. The t-stat has the rubber o-ring for a gasket. I also ordered the housing gasket and expected a gasket in the shape of the outer contour of the housing. Instead I received a small gasket that fits around the opening adjacent to the t'stat. Is there supposed to be another gasket that seals the entire housing? The Bentley is not real clear on this. 2) Are the radiators the same for automatic and manual transmission cars? The Bentley indicates to remove trans lines (where applicable) from the radiator. From my limited sight lines down the sides of the radiator there doesn't appear to be any transmission lines attached to the radiator. Just want to make sure prior to taking everything apart. The Bentley is not real clear on this. Having just done this... No. There is the redish orange odd shaped gasket for the area next to the thermostat and the o ring for the thermostat. There is no other gasket. > 2) Are the radiators the same for automatic and manual > transmission cars? The Bentley indicates to remove trans > lines (where applicable) from the radiator. Also, when I did my knock sensor install, I lubed all the vacuum hose o-rings and gaskets with petrolium jelly to get a better seal. Last...you remembered to hook the fuel pressure regulator hose back up, right? It's pretty simple, I just cut a circular flap with vertical releases on eack shock tower. I can take pics of it if you want, shoot me an email if you're interested. -josh --- "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> wrote: > Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2003 15:48:10 -0700 > From: "Burgess, Kim L" <kim.l.burgess@boeing.com> > Subject: Cut the carpet RSM replacement > > I recall that someone a while back offered the > dimensions for cutting the carpet in the trunk to > gain access without removing the carpet. I just cut a circular hole at the top of the circular part. You don't need to remove the speaker on my 97, but I think the 95's had deeper speakers.
