Wasn't a big deal during the summer, esp since I use a hockey puck on my jack anyways to cushion it. But with winter around the corner, I figure I ought to replace them. I seem to recall something about using the e46 ones instead tho... What's all that about? -josh ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Well I am here to tell you that yes they do- and they get more oil out than pulling the drain plug. I did an experiment on a friend's E30 M3 and on mine. On his we used my Griot's (way overpriced but was isn't from Griot's?- there are better alternatives) first, then pulled the drain plug. Nada drop of oil came out when we pulled the drain plug. On mine, we pulled the drain plug then used the Griot's. The Griot's extracted a little bit more oil. Bottom line- I will never pull another drain plug. The pin feature is nice, but mine broke at an autox after I hit a cone. The E46 pads hang down lower. If I was going to try E46 pads again, I would hacksaw the bottom half off so they aren't as thick, and don't hang down so low. Also note, if you use E46 pads, you will have to do some very minor trimming on the bottom of the side skirt. I used a dremmel. As it is, I will probably go back to E36 pads, and just glue them. Others have tried drilling the E36 pads, and putting a thick lag bolt in them to put load on the plug in part and spread them out more. I may have had one jackpad on the car when I bought it two years ago, but I think I had zero. I've never missed them. When I use the big jack that has the curved jack head I stick a chunk of wood (quite nice padouk actually) between it and the car, so that the metal doesn't gouge the body or moulding. When I use the AL jack with the flat surface I just jack on the car. When using jack stands I employ some of the aforementioned wood bits between the car and the stands (until I get stands with hockey puck like heads - anyone know where to procure these so I can quit using the wood?). Point of all this is that I don't know what benefit the jack stands serve. Am I missing something (again)? I bought the exact same unit from Toolwharehouse about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I agree it seems just like the one that Griots sells. I have used it on quite a few cars. Yes, it works well. The only thing you have to be careful is not to over pump it, you may rupture the tank, and find a little oil puddle next to your car (Don't ask how I know! :) ) The oil takes some time to come out, but the extractor will get 99% of it out. hope this helps. #10. Recommended Whee/Tire Shop & BMW Specialist in northern NJ? - from Mo Karamat

I use a tire shop in Succasunna called West 10 tire. They have the Hunter 9700, and really take their time with my cars.. I just went there the other day for an alignment on my IX. Anyway their # is 973-927-5757. Ask for Barbara. Hope this helps Mo -------------------- 9 -------------------- Date: Sun, 26 Oct 2003 20:15:32 -0500 From: "Roy Kao" <bimmerphile@hotmail.com> Subject: Recommended Whee/Tire Shop & BMW Specialist in northern NJ? Hey Digesters, I'm moving to the northern NJ area and was wondering if the digesters can recommend one or two good tire/wheel shops and a reputable BMW specialist or two. If the shop is in NY but close to northern NJ, that would be okay too. The BMW specialist will preferable be able to do routine maintenance and be able to do a few track oriented modifications. A shop that can do project cars would be even better. As for the wheel/tire specialist, hopefully they have the better machines for mounting tires and wheel balancing, plus availability for good tires like Bridgestone and Toyos; a shop that deals with RA-1s would be excellent! Any recommendation would be appreciated and thanks in advance for your responses. -Roy '99 M3 (making the move to the Garden State)
