I took a quick look at the block from below. What looks like a coolant plug, is 1/4"" away from an O2 sensor. Doesn't look easy or possible to remove it ( it could back out right into the sensor :-( Any hints are greatly appreciated. If you ever have a problem with that oil extractor they'll take care of you. My friend bought one from Harbor Freight (I think) and didn't like the quality of it and tried to return it unsuccessfully. He then bought the Griots one... -josh ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Exclusive Video Premiere - Britney Spears http://launch.yahoo.com/promos/britneyspears/

Are your kids killing an inordinate amount of snails? Is there a Morton's factory in your nieghborhood that has a lot of spillages? Oh yeah, I just remembered a trip to Chicago in the winter and they were putting salt on the road. Strange, all we have in SoCal is earthquakes and fires. My friend's parent's house in San Diego may have been one that survived. Jason --- DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> wrote: > I want them in there mostly to block the holes that > are left behind. The arms of the lift might just screw something up. I did the mod found on Ron's site and haven't lost a puck in 3 years. Before doing this I used to lose one or two a year. Rich

#10. Re: Jackpads - from JUSTIN GERRY

Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2003 09:23:42 -0500 From: "JUSTIN GERRY" <JGERRY@butchers.com> Subject: Re: Jackpads Josh, The E46 ones fit without modification (may depend on your side skirts I have a non-lux car). I've seen the E46 pin to E36 jackpad mod, but why waste the time (unless you have a jack that fits the E36 hockey pucks perfectly). The E46 pads have more surface area which will be a good thing when jacking up the car. I've always liked that about E46s (IMHO of course). Use some 3m Strip Calk around the edges of the pad where it meets the body to prevent water/salt/sand from entering the chassis. Believe it or not the E36 pads are supposed to have a rubber seal. I've bought some without them as they must fall out in shipping (almost as often as the pad itself). The E46 ones already have a seal in them, but the Strip Calk really seals them up against the chassis. As an FYI, you get something like 60 yards of that 3m stuff for ~$15.00 at any autobody shop and it works much better than any tube of silicone or adhesive. The pin ensures they won't fall out. Just use a hammer to tap the pin in. Just installed mine on Saturday. Total of ~$16.00 with a standard discount at the dealer for the E46 jackpads. It amazes me that BMW could overlook a small detail like those pads and it ends up leaving large holes in the underside of the chassis to catch water, salt, sand etc. I would think the history of such cars like 2002s and 3.0s would remind them that any hole under the car means rust later in life. -Justin -- '76 02 '97 m3 (with four new jackpads) bmw cca checkout http://www.bmw2002.net
