From the manual ('98 M3): Page 134: ASC+T section... it seems that the brakes are used up to 25mph. "a diminished brake action" is up to 60mph and... above 60mph there is still the engine mgmt sys reducing power. Stefano '98 M3 ( I never looked at the dash while drifting/spinning at 60+mph so I never seen the asc light come on) _________________________________________________________________ This e-mail and any attachments may be confidential or legally privileged. ASC+T has two modes: - Above 50 km/h it dials back engine power via the ASC+T secondary throttle; - Below that speed it throttles back while also selectively applying the brakes at any corner of the car. Note that traction control is only useful if there's some traction to control. Hence snow tires... Neil 96 M3

It may not be functioning properly. (ETK calls it a thermo switch for heatable spraying nozzle). 2) Quirky left turn signal can be caused by either a blown bulb or shorting bulb or wires. I'd replace both left side bulbs and make sure the holders are free of corrosion, perhaps the filament is not in full contact. Otherwise its the turn signal relay. 3) HVAC control unit probably has a cracked solder joint. You can reflow the solder or get a replacment. If the unit goes black/dead/off that is symptomatic and it is quite typical of the newer HVAC control panel. I had rebuilt unit installed a few years ago and I have had no problems with the new one. 4) Original battery should still have life in it. I just replaced mine in my '97. You can get it load tested to be sure. If the battery has been drained a few times, than it is probably junk. -Justin -- '76 02 '97 m3 bmw cca checkout http://www.bmw2002.net

Date: Mon, 15 Dec 2003 13:04:59 EST From: Sprichardson@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] regarding ASC in snow Group, I'm pretty sure the ASC in my 96M3 coupe works above 40 MPH. I think it uses a combination of fuel shut off and brakes to control wheel spin under 35 (or 40) and only brakes at higher speeds. I ran snow tires on my car for 2 winters and drove in some pretty nasty conditions here in MN. I usually ran with the ASC off because I could accelerate much faster with a little wheel spin in snow than without any (which is what the ASC allows). At speed on hard packed snow or ice however, the ASC worked very well keeping the wheels from spinning unexpectedly. Also, if I'm not mistaken, novice drivers are encouraged to keep the traction control on at driving schools until they gain confidence. I know my ASC works at speed because I felt it during high speed cornering at the track. Obviously ASC works at high speeds here. SO-3 pp's are great tires, but they're absolutely treacherous on even the smallest amount of snow. I got caught only once with my SO-3 summer tires on in an inch of new snow. It was without a doubt my scariest experience ever driving a car. Scott 96M3/2 now parked and covered in my gargage for the winter...

Doug > I have previously talked with Josh about this for my M Roadster (I have an injector and intake and am still considering doing the cam upgrade). Once the injector has been used it is programmed for the ID for the engine on which it is first used. It cannot then be used for any other engine. At the time I last talked with Josh, they were unwilling to reprogram an injector to allow it to be reused. With the cam kit, there is an injector included, and a different intake. -- =========================== georgercarrjr@earthlink.net
