#1. Another tire question - from Tucker Ryals
Top
Date: Wed, 17 Dec 2003 13:32:45 -0800 (PST) From: Tucker Ryals <tuckerryals@yahoo.com> Subject: Another tire question My 95 M3 (purchased this year) has the staggered contour rim set up. Interestingly, the PO had 235 width tires on the front and 245 tires on the rear. The tires are in need of replacement and I'm curious if I should replicate this arrangement or go back to the 225/245 factory set up. I know the non-staggered e36 M3 rims are 7.5" all the way around and BMW put 235's on the rim, so it seems like it would be okay to run the 235/245 set up, and perhaps remove some understeer associated with the 225/245 set up. Thoughts, comments? __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo! Photos - easier uploading and sharing. http://photos.yahoo.com/

Well, you won't be all over them right away as the initial sizes I heard were: 205/50R15 265/45R16 275/40R17 295/40R17 315/30R17 335/35R17 315/35R18 Here is a pic that was once posted: http://derfotohof.net/autos/tires/Kumho_710.jpg We will have to see what other sizes are eventually added... I heard that the Victoracers were supposed to be revised. Regards, Rich

Here is what he posted to me> ECSTA 710s and they are a HOOSIER beater right now.......I need to try the new hoosier.....but the new Kumho is REALLY GOOD..... Last post> Steve, From Talking to Mike Talyor at CUT ( AKA Vilvan tire) the pricing will be out January 1. They have really good feel.....and just great mid corner bite.....They really make the old tire look like crap.......It felt like they had the hoosier covered....The harder you drove it the better it worked..... We beat the crap out of the kumho Mini......OVER 40 Runs without stopping....and the tires looked great......They didn't over heat, the grip was great..... The next day I ran the 710s on a AS vette.....WOW.....I under drove them soooo much.....I was dropping time by the full second the more I trusted them.....On my last run I took a banzi run and just flung the vette into an offset with my foot on the matt........it slid .....took a set and just took off......I could not believe it.... The S03's are great, but the F1's are even better when the conditions are wet. They were on closeout at Tire Rack (who also rated the F1's better than the S03's in wet conditions) for a while and could be had fairly inexpensively. FWIW, I'm about 10k into my set and neither wet or dry performance has diminished perceptibly. In the dry the S03's are sticker and have a stiffer sidewall, but as an all around performance tire I've been quite happy with the F1 D3's. (note that the D3's are different than the first edition F1 tires which I've been told were more useful as EZUP anchors than as tires...YMMV) Jason Lombard '95 M3 White/Black > From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> > Subject: Advice on Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's for wet > driving > Me too, only the SO3 perform admirably in the wet > (due to the compound more than the siping....siping > is mainly about marketing as it pertains to rain > worthiness...). > > Buy the 712s, just don't expect great wet > performance.
