All four corners would be good. I just want to get a better idea of how much my car got lowered... Thanks! -josh ===== __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo! #5. torque specs for front strut mounts - from Mdriver13@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 22 Dec 2003 22:19:39 EST From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: torque specs for front strut mounts Group, Today I noticed a metal on metal sound coming from the left front as I was driving around town today. Happens over small bumps or if I'm stopped, I can put the car in reverse and just 'pop' it ever-so slightly backward and hear the sound. I've had the TC Kline camber plates on for about two months now...I think it's coming from that area. I retorqued the three nuts to 24mN. Is this correct? He averaged the data, and came up with: <From Ron Katona> I polled the group last year and got about a dozen responses to stock ride height. Year, model, and options didn't seem to matter much, although like cars differed by as much as 1/2". I had everyone measure from the fender lip to the center of the wheel (eliminates differences resulting from wheel size). The final figure I use is the median of all results I received and is: LF 14.2" RF 14.0" LR 13.2" RR 13.0" Standard deviation was about 1/4". Yes, almost every example was higher on the left side than the right (measured without driver). <From Ron Katona> Brett A. has the stock data at: > E36 ride heights must match the following specification +/- 10mm total. > That is, no more than 2.5mm deviation PER WHEEL. > All measurements are made from the highest point of the wheel opening, to > the lowest point of the rim, in a straight line through the hub. > > Front > Series suspension - 17 inch wheels - 604mm > Sport suspension - 17 inch wheels - 589mm > M3 - 17 inch wheels - 585mm > M3 sports suspension - 17 inch wheels - 560mm > > Rear > Series suspension - 17 inch wheels - 546mm > Sport suspension - 17 inch wheels - 535mm > M3 - 17 inch wheels - 540mm > > Hope this helps. > > Brett Anderson > www.koalamotorsport.com > Home of the E30 M3 CD-ROM repair manual > That should get you in the ball park. Using the centerline of wheel to fender opening, how low are you? I think 12.75" F and 11.5" rear is a common setting, but I am still playing with my heights. Why get an adjustable height suspension if only one end is adjustable? However note that fitting them, even if they're at the lowest setting, will raise the rear maybe 0.5", since the adjusters themselves take up some height. Sounds as if that wouldn't be an issue in your case. Neil 96 M3 - Koni DA coilovers

#9. Argh! Rear Breakage - from Steve Klein

Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2003 13:55:05 -0800 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Argh! Rear Breakage Hello, Gang- Just in time for the holidays, my humbugishness strikes back. Last night in the rain, I was leaving UPS and driving up a bridge that was in ugly shape. Worse than the norm. Struggling to stay in my lane in the downpour, I actually had the thought "This is the kind of road that breaks cars." Just at the top of the bridge getting on to the highway, I started hearing a very rhythmic ticking/klunking from what sounded like the right rear. I pulled the seat backs down to listen, but I couldn't specify a location. There is now a very unsettling klunking of something large if I hit any sizable bumps. The rhythmic noise is directly related to wheel speed at a ratio that I would estimate to be 2:1 or 3:1. It also goes away if I put a load on the driveshaft, i.e. accelerating or decelerating with the engine/driveline engaged. I suspected possibly a snapped diff. carrier or subframe bolt, but I put the back end up last night and visual inspection revealed nothing. Shocks, mounts, trailing arms et.al. were fine and solid, but I did not try loosening any of the suspected bolts. Of note is a leak around the left side drive flange seal, which is recent, but I can't say how much so. I've had the left side replaced for weeping in the past year. Any and all thoughts or wild guesses are greatly appreciated. I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow morning, but I have little hopes that it will be ready for a three hour trip tomorrow night. I'd like to have some Idea of what I'm looking at so that the repair cost isn't my Holiday Suprise. Thanks in advance, Steve P.S. I'm on digest, so if you would reply directly, I'd appreciate it.

I geuss Koni figured the rear ride height was where it was supposed to be. I did some measuring and the front has dropped a bit over 1", while the rear dropped 1.5". If the ride height adjusters work with the rear koni springs (which look like stock springs, but shorter) than I'll throw them in. If it brings the rear end up 0.5" it'll be perfect for me. -josh --- Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> wrote: > Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2003 09:32:27 -0500 > From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> > Subject: Re: Got my koni coilovers installed this > morning... > > on 12/22/03 6:12 PM, DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> > wrote: > > > The car is looowwwww.
