#1. Water pump bearing lubrication? - from Chip Mitchell
Top
Date: Mon, 29 Dec 2003 08:40:31 -0500 From: Chip Mitchell <chipm@uga.edu> Subject: Water pump bearing lubrication? I hope everyone had a great Christmas. My water pump blew up last night, and it ended up making a knocking noise that I thought was disaster until my wife pointed out the 1/2" endplay on the water pump (oops, did I just admit that my wife diagnosed my car before I did?). I have had a few drops of oil in the radiator tank for the past several weeks, and discussions/investigation so far had led me to believe it may be the head gasket. But, now I wonder if it could be oil or grease from a failing pump bearing? I appreciate any comments. Thanks, Chip Mitchell, Grayson GA

#4. Air in Radiator... - from John Hoffner

Date: Mon, 29 Dec 2003 10:28:56 -0600 From: John Hoffner <jhoffner@gcfinc.com> Subject: Air in Radiator... I replaced the radiator on my 95 M3 and am having trouble bleeding the system of air. I drove the car about a mile but the temperature gauge started to climb towards overheating. Even when the temperature gauge shows hot I'm not getting warm air from the heater vents. I opened the bleeder valve on the radiator tank and squeezed the upper and lower radiator hoses but I still have air in the system. Any suggestions on how to purge the system of air would be appreciated. > >

(don't fill too much yet). after test drive when everything's gotten cold again, fill up tank to cold level and you should be done. that said, you will probably find more correct instructions in the archives. its discussed every few months or so... #6. Snow tires anyone? - from Chester Wong

Date: Mon, 29 Dec 2003 08:39:15 -0800 (PST) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: Snow tires anyone? Hey guys. My 4 year old Pirelli snow tires seem to be on their last legs. Whereas I used to not be able to break them loose, not it seems very easy. Pirelli doesn't make that tire anymore (or in that size...225/45s) so I'm exploring other tires. So....Blizzak LM-22, Blizzak WS-50 (which one is a newer design?? the LM or the WS?) or the Pilot Alpin? The LM is $155, the WS-50 is $134 and the Alpin is $151. Michelin has a $40 rebate on the purchase of 4 tires... TIA, Chester =====

Hey Chester, The LM-22 is the newer design and is the performance one, available only in 16" and above. The WS-50 is available in smaller sizes but is not as high performance. I have LM-22s on my M3 and have never had a problem here in Upstate NY. Since the LMs are not available in 14" sizes, I am going with the WS-50s for my 325e. I've been very happy with the LMs but can't compare to the WSs since they are being mounted tomorrow. #8. Upgrading stock E36 speakers - For Sale - from eevans@planetc.com
Top
Date: Mon, 29 Dec 2003 12:54:31 -0500 From: eevans@planetc.com Subject: Upgrading stock E36 speakers - For Sale Hi, I have a full set of E36 M3 Quart speakers w/ the requisite wiring and hardware for sale. They came out of my Doctor's '98 M3 and he asked me to sell them for him. He ordered these special so he wouldn't have to alter any of the speaker mounts or do any custom installation, so they are literally plug and play for an E36 M3. I have the original invoices for all of the equipment. He only had them installed for about 10K miles before he ask me to take them out when he sold the car. They are virtually like new. Let me know if anyone is interested. They require removing the headrest and slipping the covers over the posts. Nice, leaves the headrest uncovered, doesn't interfere with the Schroth Autocontrols, and easy install. Only problem, how do I get the headrests off? I can't find a release and there is something locking them in. As usual, TIA.
