I ended up getting 4 225/45R17 Michelin Alpin Pilots. They were $4 cheaper each than the LM-22s and there was a $40 rebate from Michelin if you bought it by yesterday...so I was ordering tires at 8:30pm last night ;) Since I do a lot of high speed highway driving, the WS-50s just wouldn't cut it. Happy New Year, Chester =====

#8. Fuel Pump Leak Question - from Frank & Kirsten
Top
Date: Thu, 1 Jan 2004 18:06:26 -0700 From: "Frank & Kirsten" <FranKirsten@msn.com> Subject: Fuel Pump Leak Question Happy New Year to all, I hope 2004 is a happy and prosperous year for all you fellow listers. Additionally, I want to thank you for the wealth of knowledge shared through this forum. Yesterday, while starting off to work, I was idling in my drive way in the BMW M3 when I noticed someone had egged my pickup truck. I got out and surveyed the egging and talked to my neighbor about it when we noticed that the M3 was spewing fuel from the left side under the gas tank. It was quite a bit of fuel and was rapidly draining off the car. So, after checking the archives I discovered that it could be the fuel sender or even just the hose crimp clamps. After pulling the seat and the covers, it appears to be the defective crimp clamps. I replaced both the right and left hoses with the American style (screw to torque down) clamps and the leaks are solved. My question is if there are any other clamps (aside from the fuel filter, which I already changed the style of clamps when servicing the filter) down stream of the fuel pump connections that require changing to prevent this type of leakage? I guess I was not paying attention when this came up in other posts, but this seems like a serious safety issue that one would see a recall issued. I called an independent BMW service center, and they explained that this and the muffler breaking are both ways to have your E36 turn into a fireball. By the way, I had my exhaust break right in front of the input to the muffler, and that seems to be another way to get the rear of the car on fire. I welded it up for emissions, and then built a custom rear from the O2 collector back. Be very aware of what may seem like a leaking muffler (louder rumble) because it may be the exhaust breaking in front of the muffler. Sorry for the long rant, please let me know if there are other clamps that may need replacing. Thanks again for the great info and experience repository! Cordially, Frank 1995 M3
