Make sure the mating surface on the pan is clean. Second, replace the drain plug. You have now compromised it. They are designed to break off at the base of the threads when overtightened (ask me how I know!) so they don't strip the pan threads. You have now weakened the bolt and it should be replaced. The torque spec on the drain plug is 25 ft/lbs. Use a torque wrench. - Mark E36 325is JP/A5 #117 ----- mark@pdc-racing.net

If there's still some seepage you could try wrapping some teflon pipe tape around the plug threads to seal them. > How much does it usually cost to replace the oil pan? You don't want to know... I'm thinking of giving in & finding a mechanic to help get me by when I'm overloaded. Anybody know of someone good in or near Torrance, California??? Right now I need a full exhaust swap, from header back so I can smog it. -- Roger

Date: Tue, 13 Jan 2004 02:24:40 EST From: Msebmwman@aol.com Subject: Wanted: Adjustable rear sway bar greater than 22 mm size All; Anyone here have a rear sway bar for an E36M3 that they would like to get rid of? I need a size greater than 22 mm, preferably in the 24-25 mm range and adjustable with at least 2 holes on each end. Lightly used bushings would be nice. End links are not needed. A sway bar that clears the exhaust when the rear of the car is off the ground would be nice as well. Thanks, Marc 95 M3 looking for rear sway

#6. RE: [E36M3] Temperature gauge scenario - from Newman, Christopher

Which leads to some follow-up questions. If you DO have a coolant sensor problem, AND your water pump is failing, would the temperature gauge actually rise to the red zone ? In other words, is it possible that with a faulty coolant sensor, you could be overheating from a failing water pump but not even know it because the temperature gauge is reading incorrectly ? Regarding a thermostat that's stuck open, is this a major concern ? I would think stuck open is better than stuck closed, but does the cars computers compensate somehow and perhaps shorten the life of the catalytic converter or other components ? Thanks. Any comments are truly appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- > Date: Mon, 12 Jan 2004 12:52:10 -0500 > From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> > Subject: Re: Temperature gauge scenario > > Chris, > > The temp gauge should stay at or very close to the center position under > the > conditions you describe. 30 degree temps for ten minutes isn't enough to > cool the cooling system much, and it won't be noticeable. > > If you're seeing that the indicator is down near the blue region after ten > > minutes of shutdown time, it sounds like a coolant sensor problem. I don't think that they provided flow measurements of the dirty injectors >> 3) the corrected flow rates after cleaning? I don't remember what the numbers were in terms of flow rates, however they were within 1% of each other. >> 4) any observations about mileage or performance after the cleaning? I had the injectors balanced during a general R&R of the intake manifold (vacuum operated variable length intake), I replaced many gaskets, O-rings and hoses and rebuilt the vacuum solenoid for the intake as well as replacing the knock sensors, vacuum hoses, etc, etc. The car ran and idled much smoother afterwards although I am not sure how much of it was solely as a result of the injector bablancing. Didn't do any dyno testing, sorry. Regards Jamie Howton 2002 330i 1995 M3

There are apparently deposits in regular tap water that could mar paint surface. Has anyone tried using a brita/Pur tap extension for a hose? Or has anyone done a larger indoor water purifier linked to the outside? Just wondering, Alex "HyperM3" Demsky 97 S/C M3 ~ http://hometown.aol.com/hyperm3/Bimmer.html
