#5. RE: [E36M3] Outside hose water filters - from Mel Silva

Anyway, my 'hair brained idea' was to use an activated charcoal canister like you would use for filling/washing a fish tank. The one I've got is made from a 2' length of 3" PVC with hose ends on either sides. Inside is about 2 lbs. of activated charcoal with mesh screens on either end to keep the charcoal in the PVC. Instead of using screens you could always load the charcoal in to cheese cloth and tie both ends, like you would a 'spice bundle' for stews and other boiled culinary delights. Granted, I have never used that for washing my car, I'm too close to 1-800-new-paint already to bother. Anyway, there's my crazy idea for the day...back to my .NET code Mel (crazy Texan) -----Original Message----- From: Dorffer, Rich [mailto:RDORFFER@CleIndians.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2004 9:17 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Outside hose water filters Date: Wed, 14 Jan 2004 10:06:13 -0500 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Outside hose water filters > Ok so anal as I am about keeping my car clean and never getting touched by rain, > a friend brought up a good question. There are apparently deposits in regular > tap water that could mar paint surface. Has anyone tried using a brita/Pur tap > extension for a hose? That isn't happening. You clearly never used one of these types of filters (I have had them for years). The water comes out much slower (like 10%) than the normal pressure. They get slower over time as the filter fills until it is so painfully slow, you swap for a new filter. Washing you car would take 5 hours and would use one new filter each time... ;-) > Or has anyone done a larger indoor water purifier linked to the outside? I haven't, but there are many people how have reverse osmosis whole house systems and the like that would work. No personal experience, though I do plan on picking one up and trying it out. It comes with an inline filter, sounds pretty neet. http://www.homemadesimple.com/mrcleanautodry/ Actually, when I wash my car at my parents place (in the Mojave Desert!), if I don't dry it in a matter of minutes it leaves the most incredibly tough and visible white mineral deposits you can imagine. If it works well for me I'll be buying another one for my folks :) scott yu > > Date: Wed, 14 Jan 2004 10:06:13 -0500 > From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> > Subject: Outside hose water filters > > > Ok so anal as I am about keeping my car clean and > never getting touched by > rain, > > a friend brought up a good question. Most 16" wheels will not work. .... and you can't necessarily believe Tirerack. On my 98 I was looking for 16" wheels for snow tires and was promised by Tirerack that a particular wheel would fit without needing spacers. They lied. And they shipped the spacers with the wheels for the front and bolts that were no longer really long enough.
