Plus I have a little oil getting around the #1 plug from above, I'm assuming the cam cover gasket needs replacing, does any one know the part number for the gasket kit. #2. Re: [E36M3] New Schroth street/track seat - from Tom Voloshin

Are the seats cloth or leather? I have a 99 M3 that I got used not quite a year ago. This Spring I would like to get it out on the track (non-competitive) for a couple day sessions. I have the stock leather seats in there now with electronic adjustments. I am 6'2" and with the seat adjusted the way I like, I have about 1/4" clearance between my head and the roof (with sunroof option). I have my vertical adjustment as far to the floor as it will go and unfortunately I will not fit in my car with my helmet on (without significantly reclining the seat, which then totally messes up my "normal" comfortable driving position and reach). Is there any headroom to be gained by going with a street/track seat with non-sliding mounting brackets? How much headroom do I loose with all of that motorized seat adjustment mechanics under there? I think that if I could just get another inch or two that would help significantly. Are the stock seats with motorized adjustments easily removed (all one unit and low enough on the PITA scale to make this a viable option)? Since I would consider myself lucky (and consider it a "banner year") if I got my M out to the track 5 or more times for the year, I guess I was hoping to find an inexpensive street/track seat with non-adjustable mounting "L" brackets that can get me as close to the floor as possible. Then I would just take the time the night before, swap my stock seat out and bolt in my track seat for the day at the track and then afterwards swap the stock seat back in. Sounds like a major pain, but I like the stock seats for daily driving and if I am only getting my M out on the track 5 days a year ** AND ** if the stock seats are easy enough to remove then I would consider this a "win-win" situation/setup. :) Any thoughts, comments, ideas, info on Schroth and other seats options (since you said that you have been researching this for a year) for my M will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks and have a great day! They seemed to say, and I agree, it was going to be a good value and about the price of a quality track seat. The other brands of street/track seats I have sat in I didn't like at all. It isn't on their web site yet but I called and told them to expect some questions. Once again, no affiliation. I just wanted to improve the safety and seating security (to much sliding around) of my street/track car and was going to go with Cobra Imola 2 GTs until I sat in these. Others may think different, but for me it seems with the harnesses and roll bar added the safety is increased while still being comfortable to drive but I'll know more after the installation. As some of you may know, I've run with them quite a bit with my black E36 "mutt car" & the events are always safe & well organized with plenty of track time & reasonable rates. Check out their web site if interested: http://www.norcal-saac.org/ Click on the "2004 Events Calendar" then "Winter Surprise Open Track" for details. Also, currently the event is listed for Sat & Sun (7-8th) but may go back to Sat only as registration is slow for Sunday. -- Roger Baker

With the appropriate seat and competition belts, I think it minimizes the chance of your head hitting it. You have to look at the whole system and make a decision for your self. The flip side is that I have seen enough happen at the track to make it worth it for me. Gordon

#10. Introduction - from Stephen Ayers
Top
Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 20:40:29 -0500 From: "Stephen Ayers" <sayer@ayersnet.com> Subject: Introduction I've just joined the list and thought I would introduce myself - I've been driving my 98 Techno Violet E36 M3 since purchasing it new in June of 98. It was one of the last 4-doors produced. After using it as a daily driver for 3 years I discovered the world of Autocross and high performance driving schools. Over the past 2 years and 30+ track events the car has evolved into primarily track car. Modifications include HMS Roll bar, RD sway bars, strut tower brace, X-brace, software upgrade, PF brake pads, frozen rotors, UUC short-shifter, cold air, Ground Control Race coil-over kit (Koni/Eibach), lots of 8.5" Kosei K1 rims, Toyo and Kumo "R" compound tires, and Transmission Mount Enforcer. For this winter I plan on making the following changes: * Suzuka Race Seats * Exhaust - UUC * Brake cooling kit - turner * Front Splitter * Rear wing - Not sure which one * TMS Trailing Arm Bushing Limiter Kit * Front control arms & Tie rods (safety items) * Repack front wheel bearings with RedLine * JT-Designs Aluminum Underpanel I would love some feedback from the group on other recommended modifications/maintenance items for a 60K mile track car. (I've already taken car of the water pump) Also, recommendations on aftermarket replica rear wings would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Steve 98 E36 M3 91 E30 M3
