The 5 1/4 mid woofers are a drop in replacement up front. Helps to have bass in back (stealthboxes), but these work nicely up front. Marc Plante Marc Plante marc@plante.com

The source of the information I provided is the BMW service instuctions in the Factory TIS. This is the repair information provided by BMW to the dealerships. Hey all - My 1995 M3 with 138,000 miles just failed the Virginia emissions with excess HC and NOx on the rolling dyno. What now? They are saying I need a new catalytic converter but I think it's a racket. Car was good and hot when I brought it in, although it may have sat for 10-15 minutes while they got the machine ready. I use 93 or 94 octane all the time. As far as I know the car runs like a top. Any advice, suggestions would be appreaciated...TIA! Wes '95 M3

Aren't there a bunch of little gaskets/rubber washers that go on each of the bolts holding down the cover, as well? Does anyone know if these should be replaced, and what the PN is, if so? Thanks. Usually when you fail the NOx it's indicative of bad cats. However, you might want to get a retest and bring the car in hot and then DON'T turn it off while they're getting the machine ready, just let the car idle... -josh --- "Wesley A. My '95 M3 with 15,000 miles failed the CA pre-roller emissiuons test -- putting in new plugs and a new 02 sensor reduced the bad parameter (I think it was HC) from, like, slightly over 200 to around 8, IIRC. So, I'd recommend the new plugs and maybe new O2 sensor before a new cat. -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com

In any case, I'd regularly see 285 on hot summer days at Summit Point and VIR. Since installing the oil cooler, I've never seen more than 250. I installed Bob Hanvey's oil cooler kit which uses the Euro oil filter housing, oil cooler and '95 M3 LTW oil lines. Zach, I recently did this and only had to replace a few of the small gaskets - those which were well adhered to either the cover or the head. So get a few and replace them as necessary. My ETK shows the gaskets as "rubber sealing", 11 12 1 437 395, qty not listed. CHECK with your dealer to verify this PN.
