The smog repair shop I took the car to wanted $1.5K for a new catalytic converter. After reseraching the topic and talking to several techs I was told it was the operating temerature of the catalytic converter that matters most. Especially when doing your smog/testing your car for pollutants. Translation= Run your car for at least an hour before test. Make sure those cats are hot...these cars were designed for high performance. The cats running cold will reflect a poor test.. hence, that is why you and I failed.. Even 250 is still hot, but in the realm of reasonable. - Mark

Not sure why Jamie is looking up the parts for a euro engine, but as someone mentioned, the gaskets come in a kit: 11 12 9 070 532 - '96+ 11 12 9 070 531 - '95 The rubber sealing things are 11 12 1 437 395 ('95 - '99). And yes, you can use a small about of gasket sealer way in the back where there are two half moons, but that's about it. As for me, I didn't use any and it works fine. Also make sure the air filter isn't filty. Optimize the combustion with all of your cheap alternatives. My cats are fine at 218k and 11 yrs of operation (then again, so are my wheel bearings, though I'll do them this spring before heading back out to the track). Marc Plante E36 325i, 218k Vienna, VA

Super creamy smooooooooth silk tweeters. personally I tend not to like anything with aluminum tweeters. When I shopped for speakers, I found the a/d/s/ very accurate and balanced, but the Dynaudios just had some 3D, electric pop-out-of-the-speakers life to them. Find a place to try them out, or if you're in the Bay Area you can listen to my Dynaudio/ads/nakamichi rig sometime. andy r. 98 m3

Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2004 23:09:26 EST From: Msebmwman@aol.com Subject: LTW oil lines RE: the message below. The 95 M3 LTW did not come from the factory with any sort of oil cooler nor lines waiting for an oil cooler. The engine, radiator, oil etc. were all exactly the same as the other 95 regular M3s. Only difference is it did not have the A/C radiator in the front. Can someone help me out with this and tell me what it means. I am unaware of the LTWs coming with oil coolers from the factory. Seth Thomas

#8. [OTH] Custom Helmet Recommendations - from Tom Voloshin

Date: Thu, 22 Jan 2004 05:10:31 -0800 (PST) From: Tom Voloshin <tvoloshin@yahoo.com> Subject: [OTH] Custom Helmet Recommendations Since I want to take my M3 to the track this Spring; and that is about as M3 related as this post will get, I'll try to keep it concise and to the point (apologies in advance for taking up list bandwidth). My go-kart racing helmet is pretty beat and rather plain. I want to get a new helmet with a nice custom paint design. Can anyone recommend anyone they used that they were pleased with (or not pleased with that I should avoid)? I used Yahoo and Google to search for custom helmet designs and I found plenty, but everyone I went to so far were either for motorcycles (skulls, flames, undead schemes for cycle fuel tanks, etc.) OR their site would pound me with pop-up adds, etc. that I just wanted to get off of that site ASAP and then spend the next 20 minutes fixing my registry and scanning my PC for spyware. :( I'm about as artistic as a squashed ant on the pavement, so I need to see pictures of helmet designs in the realm of racing and not the macob (spelling?). If you know of any decent places/websites for custom racing helmets email me offlist. Thanks, I appreciate it. Have a great day! Tom __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! But 15 minutes sitting around is more than enough for the cat to cool down and you fail the test. If it were my car I would get a retest and make sure it goes on the treadmill right off the street.
