I agree with Kirk 100%, but since both new members are in the SF Bay Area, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the upcoming Golden Gate Chapter drivers school March 6-7 at Sears Point. :-) Welcome to you both! I had the precursor to the A/S on my M5 and they really sucked - big time. I am so much happier with regular Sports. I would say go with the regular Sports - they do awesome in the rain and even better in the dry. Besides, if a tire lasts more than a couple years it just gets hard and loses all stick anyway. Car like an M3 deserves a good tire, IMHO. They have tread wear rating of 400! Normal Pilot Sport has 220. Also, I heard the performance is on par. I don't need an all season tire(live in bayarea), but I want a tire that lasts 30k miles. Great tires for everyday use in wet or dry (I live in So. CA.) ...but since I don't do track driving or autoX, can't really say as to the performance of these tires under hard use. I recently had a set of Yokohama ES100s put on the M3 and really like these too...quiet, comfortable and great handling...well, at least on fast fwy entrances and exits :) Regards, David '95 M3 192K miles In a message dated 1/29/04 4:58:01 PM Pacific Standard Time, e36m3@bmw-m.net writes: Date: Thu, 29 Jan 2004 14:53:47 -0800 (PST) From: Venkata Yella <v_yella@yahoo.com> Subject: Any experiences with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires? Back on December 30th when we were discussing water pumps and the composite nature of the impeller, I posted > > It is my understanding though that certain OE aftermarket manufacturers > (like Graf and Geba) may still have a metal impeller available that looks > like black anodized aluminum but I wonder if this is really the black > composite impellers that people are confused with since it does appear to > be a metal, maybe not? > I also recall someone mentioning that the Graf and Laso have crappy > bearings/seals and the OE BMW part is a better part to go with? Chip M also chimed in to report he had a water pump failure at 25k miles (Geba). So, there are certainly plenty of cases where early water pump failure occurs. You must not have been paying attention Shane, you were too busy commenting about the "Range Rover" thread at that time (me rolling my eyes). :-) In addition, I have had to add a little water to my system on occasion (less than once a year) and I have had to add water after an initial bleed due to additional air working out of the system. Also, there have been instances of the water level sensor going bad. Regards, Rich

I don't need an all season tire(live in bayarea), but I want a tire that lasts 30k miles. My set of MXXX3s went 34k and were a bit used when I replaced them. I don't live in the Bay area, but I'm getting better that 30K per set. My first set of Sports went 38k and had a little track time. I'm being a bit rougher on the rears this time around but I've quit 'pushing' the fronts around. Kim Burgess 99M3/2

He is wondering whether to put on 225's all around or stagger 225f/235r. He has 2 good wheels with new 225's on it so he only wants to buy 2 tires. Any thoughts? Or you can go big bucks for the Aluminum model for over $600..." The later OEM plastic tank radiators now have a reinforced upper neck. I believe they are lasting longer but plastic does age and become failure prone. For the price of an alloy radiator you can invest in several replacement OEM type radiators though one risks head/head gasket issues should an overheat occur. I purchased a Zionville Alloy replacement for less than 5 bills. http://www.zionsvilleautosport.com/store/shop.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=6134&Product_Code=NP-ALLOYRAD and they sell a kit that replaces all the normal ancillary items http://www.zionsvilleautosport.com/store/shop.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=6134&Product_Code=NP-ALLOYRADK&Category_Code=AR1 Kim Burgess 99M3/2

It gets louder and faster with the revs. However, once the car is warmed up, the noise goes away. I suspect it is the cooling system. The water pump was changed at 65k and I'm still on the stock radiator. Coolant level is normal.
