I get this also in my car and actually sometimes it gets hung up there and ceases to accelerate. I thought it was maybe the fuel pump or my clutch but now that i see another car has this 'hiccup' I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this? We've got a set that we use to move the race car around on in order to allow us to either push it to the side and park a second car in the garage or pull it to the middle if we want to work on it. Another up side is that putting on the cradles gets the car up a tad bit higher, which makes working in the bay that much easier. I can't really address the flat spotting question since the car is either on the cradles or on jack stands between events. Currently, with the race car ripped apart and getting a number of areas revamped, we're lucky to get one car in the garage. This pic is from the M3's short lived glory days. I think it lasted a month. But we don't bring that up, it's a touchy subject. http://www.lonepinebeaterchallenge.com/happytogether.jpg Jason '97 M3 - which I hardly even cover anymore --- HyperM3@aol.com wrote: > Date: Sat, 31 Jan 2004 09:44:19 -0500 > From: HyperM3@aol.com > Subject: Tire cradles? > > Hey everyone, > > I was just wondering at what point are tire cradles > necessary? Date: Sat, 31 Jan 2004 17:59:27 -0800 From: Ragnar <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: VANOS Stuff Andrew- I got into this area (twice) just a few months ago to replace exactly what you're replacing in an 11/95 M3 and I've put together a page about my process. http://www.robinsonad.com/M3Camshafts/ I replaced the lifters at the same time, and I sourced them at Bimmerworld for $15.80 a piece. This is from my invoice, but I can't find their part number. Hydraulic Valve Lifter 24 $15.80 $379.20 Most other places were around the $19-21 range. I didn't even bother to ask the dealership. :?P I'd be happy to answer any questions, although I stopped at the camshafts and lifters, leaving springs and retainers alone. I'll probably go in one more time in the spring to replace the upper timing chain and the gaskets, but for the most part, all the engine noises from the VANOS area are gone. Hope this helps, Steve P.S. Sue? If you'd like to put the writeup on the site, I'm more than happy to provide the files to you. Just let me know. Thanks, Steve

#6. frozen Caliper - from Robert Exconde (M3)

Date: Sun, 1 Feb 2004 11:08:08 -0600 From: "Robert Exconde (M3)" <99e36m3@exconde.com> Subject: frozen Caliper Well, it looks like I have a frozen caliper, I think. I drove the M and it looks as the week went on it seemed like it got worse if that is possible. The car felt like it was driving on contractor asphalt(the rough asphalt before the final coat is placed) on the front right wheel. Then the car started to shake, checked the lugs then I noticed that I smelled brake burn felt the driver side rotor ... cold, felt the passenger side rotor and it was blazing hot, wierd rub marks and a hot tipped finger. So I guess I have to change the caliper. Some one has suggested that I buy a re-build kit. So my question is, should I try one of these first or buy new calipers. How long do these re-builds last? I suppose I have to buy new brake pads an rotor as well? Do I have to change both of the front rotors, calipers and pads as a set or can I change one side only? Is there any quick or temporary fix? Thanks, Robert

Date: Sun, 1 Feb 2004 10:54:22 -0800 (PST) From: Jeff Kumler <jdkumler@yahoo.com> Subject: Wheel weight. I am in the market for some new rims and tires. I was wondering if anyone knows how much a BMW M-Contour 8-1/2" rim weighs (now sold)? I remember someone once posted a link that had BMW rims weights listed, I did some searching but did not find it. Currently leaning towards SSR Silver Comps or BBS CH, but 6.5lbs more a wheel is a lot of weight to putting back on the car. But I really like the aesthetics’ of those BBS's. Basically it replaces the seals and boots around the piston. You'll probably want to polish the piston as well. The rebuild should last quite a while. I rebuilt the fronts on the M3 nearly 4 years ago (and nearly 100,000 miles ago), and there's been no problems. At the next pad/rotor change I'll inspect the boots, but I don't anticipate any issues. #10. 95 M3 front strut hats for sale or trade for 96+ hats - from Msebmwman@aol.com

Date: Sun, 1 Feb 2004 14:39:41 EST From: Msebmwman@aol.com Subject: 95 M3 front strut hats for sale or trade for 96+ hats All; I have a set of 1995 M3 front strut hats for sale or to trade with someone that has a set of 96+ strut hats that they would like to get rid of. These come from a 1995 M3 that has KMAC plates and so these 95 M3 strut hats are no longer needed. Either buy them to experiment on or trade them with me for the set of 96+ hats that you have and want to get rid of. If you want to trade then we'll each absorb shipping to each other. I'll use UPS ground from 91344. If you want to buy them how about 50$ which includes shipping from around zip 91344 to within the continental US by UPS ground shipping. Thanks, Marc
