If I could trouble you a little more, the measurement I need would be the narrowest point from the side of the coolant tank to say the top to the bolt head that clamps that metal tube that runs laterally on the front of the cylinder head. A pix looking straight down at that point would also be excellent if you could. You've already been a great help!! It looks as though my radiator may have been knocked off its mounting brackets on the passenger side. It even looks like one of those bolt heads may have impacted and left a mark on my coolant tank. I just want Progressive to pay for the labor to disassemble the radiator mounting, check for broken brackets (I think they are plastic) while they have the car. I just fear that Progressive doesn't want to pay for any addition labor. Thanks again! What I mean is any suggestions for filters for the E36 M3 I have now. K&N vs. ITG? cone vs. Vs drop in. I'm not looking to spend a small fortune. Not ready to buy a chip/firmware just yet. I'm pretty happy with the performance but plan to do a filter first. I like drop in filters, but what type of difference between a cone and drop in? Kent Kent Kent L. #5. Camber Shims - from Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com

Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2004 07:43:02 -0500 From: Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com Subject: Camber Shims Hi everyone, I was wondering if you could help to clarify the thickness of washer (between the low strut mounting point and the hub) that you need to add to increase camber. From the archives, I understand that I need a M12x1.75x25 bolts in 10.9 grade when using the washers. What size (diameter of hole?, outer diameter?) and thickness would I use to gain -0.5? Some people say 0.04" = -0.5 degrees, while others say 1/16"= 0.063" = -0.5 degrees. Where's the best place to get the parts....Steve D, Korman, hardware store? Thanks, Colin '98 M3

I just got them at the hardware store. Measured them to make sure they were close to the same thickness. I didn't use longer bolts. .1" is only about 2 threads. If you're running wide tires, you may need to use wheel spacers. Watch the clearance between the top of the wheel/tire and strut housing. Seems as if the power steering pump is making a chirping sound like the pump shaft is going bad. Any experience with this on the list? Things to check before I replace it, failure mode if it does go, etc. Thanks, Shane K. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2004 13:20:56 -0500 From: "Pat Kelly" <pkelly@agincourtcapital.com> Subject: e39 brake pad info needed Sorry for the OT post, but the wife's '99 528i needs new front rotors/pads. Her car has the sport package, with the BBS wheels, which are a major beeyatch to clean. Any recommendations on low-dust brake pads for this street machine? I seem to recall that one of the OEM producers' pads dust less than others. TIA, y'all. pkelly@agincourtcapital.com

I changed to Pagid from Jurids and had noticeably less dust. With my old Jurids, the dust was literally noticable after driving 10 miles. If I don't clean my wheels for a while the Pagids leave a black dust on my wheels, but definitely less than the original Jurids I read some anectodal evidence to the above on the net and have found it to be true. I like the feel of the Pagids, although I understand they would not hold up in track use. Regards..
