Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2004 18:26:27 EST From: Boen168@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] E39 Brake Pad Info I used to have PBR Deluxes on my E39 528i, very little dust but they sure squeak after awhile. Currently also have the PBRs on the E30M3 with the same result but since the car is seldom used (read: garage queen!), I don't mind the squeak on those exercise weekend drives. Recently, I replaced the pads on the daily driver E36M3 with Mintex Street Pads (red box) and so far, quite satisfied with the performance...almost no noise and little dust. Yes they stop good too! You may want to give this a try. Regards, DavidB. Her car has the sport package, with the BBS wheels, which are a major beeyatch to clean. Any recommendations on low-dust brake pads for this street machine? I seem to recall that one of the OEM producers' pads dust less than others. TIA, y'all. pkelly@agincourtcapital.com

You might choose to change all the idler pulleys at once (3 total), as they can fail and leave you stranded. Murray

My engine just threw the old familiar fault code 1221--I think that is "EGO sensor #1"?? It has been several years since I had to mess with that. My questions: 1. Easy repair for DIY? 2. Anybody have a repair write-up with digital photos? 3. What's a good source and price to buy a new sensor? Thanks in advance! Chris Darling

You just need the proper wrench/socket. I think you can even borrow it from Autozone. Find the O2 sensor by tracing the lead. There's only one on a '95, and it's around the y-connection before the catalyst. 3. Bimmerparts.com. No affiliation, etc. but generally found them to have good prices. Usual list advertisers too, of course. I also have some 0.010" shock shims from ground-control. Ground-control has a nice selection of thickness' in shock shims that they will sell. I bought the Mil Spec ones from McMaster Carr. IIRC, the 0.028" washers were close to 0.4 degrees, so I think you first number is correct. It's a 12mm bolt, so a 1/2" washer is perfect. OD is not critical. #7. E36 M3 track pad (front and rear) - from Fernando Mujica

Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2004 20:36:07 -0600 From: Fernando Mujica <fmujica@mac.com> Subject: E36 M3 track pad (front and rear) What track pad would you recommend that are available both front and rear? I don't want to mess with the braking balance of the car, so I want the same pad compound all around. I have been using the PF R4-S in all four corners for street/auto-x/track and have been relatively happy with them, but I'm open for something different, even if they are track only pads. Thanks, Fernando

Flat torque curve, broad temp range, effective (high friction) at very low temps. Pretty much the highest mu in any pad available for saloon cars (i.e. not ultra high downforce prototypes and single-seaters). Not to be argumentative or anything, but I'm not alone in that I've never really been a fan of Hawks.
