Mine were rotated when I bought the car years ago, and the insides of the tires were corded with about 60% tread on the outsides. I was clueless at the time and the dealer told me it was a camber problem, but I'm thinking the toe was incorrect. Front camber was -3.2, rear was -1.9. Now this was mostly set up for track and I had "CSL" springs from PTG, the lowest coil springs out there for the E36. At normal ride height with the stock LTW springs, I think my camber was -2.6 to -2.9 and rear was about -1.5. On the street I would run a tad bit less than stock to half of stock toe in. basically run enough toe that the car is not darting all over the place which will become very tiring. I didnt think about a car for mostly street use, the rotated hats might introduce too much camber for decent tire wear. Toe is also easy enough to change at home. park the front wheels on a couple of sheets of color print paper, measure the front and rear of the front wheels, the difference is the toe in, adjust accordingly. If you can change brake pads, you can do this also. Just read up on alignment so you understanding exactly what you are changing etc. Mike ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chip Mitchell" <chipm@uga.edu> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Cc: <95m3ltw@comcast.net> Sent: Friday, February 13, 2004 10:29 AM Subject: Re: Rotate 95 strut hats > What toe would you run with this setup? I ended up switching back since it trashed the inside corners of my tires too fast (I do a lot of highway driving vs track time). YMMV of course. Marc Plante E36 325i, 218k Vienna, VA

If so, what are the downsides (screwed up caster? and what will that > mean?). The geometry of the 96+ hats is such that this trick, which as you probably know can be done with the 95, isn't effective. Rotating the swapped 96+ hats 120 degrees would get you roughly the same negative camber but substantially reduced caster. Steering feel can self-centering action are partly determined by caster. If you still wanted to add some neg camber you could use shims. Neil

Kim, No photos, but I took a soda can, cut out rectangular sections, folded them over and used them to sandwich the existing panel holes. I glued them in place with epoxy, drilled the aluminum - worked fine. Others have used pop rivets to hold the aluminum supports in place.
