As a refresher, the coolant temp would get very high (over 3/4) during long full throttle pulls. This usually started about 1/2 way through a race. The head, head gasket, and block showed no signs of coolant leakage anywhere. I took the head to a machine shop for the usual tests, but they won't be able to get to it until Wednesday... The tech that did most of the work stated that the motor was very clean and showed no unusual signs of wear. I'll keep you informed. I'm in the process of replacing the coolant hoses, fuel lines, etc. that are now easily accessible with the head removed. The monster 4 ended coolant hose is really easy now! :-) Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock (wounded...)

#2. Alternater Drive pulley, suggestions please - from Michael Feldpusch

Date: Mon, 16 Feb 2004 07:35:31 -0700 From: "Michael Feldpusch" <m.feldpusch@comcast.net> Subject: Alternater Drive pulley, suggestions please Good day, I'm in the process of installing UUC underdrive pulleys. The power steering and water pump pulleys were a piece of cake. When I got to the alternator pulley, i'm having a hard time getting the pulley nut loosened. I have a 24mm socket with an 18" breaker bar. It seems when I try to loosed the nut, the alternator rotates with the direction of my force. Does anyone have any tips on getting this nut off? Or ways to keep the alternator still, and still keep the original pulley in tact. Has anyone else had these same issues. Thanks in advance. Michael Feldpusch 95 M3 #44 SM

Failing that, maybe use one of those rubber strap wrenches from home depot would work to hold it. Regards Jamie Howton 2002 330i 1995 M3

#4. Looking for Underpanel Reinforcement tips! - from Dorffer, Rich

Unfortunately, the next piece > that failed was the plastic nuts which are "embedded" via press fit and > external scaling into the frame parts. So I'm building an underpanel. How do you truly know whether the epoxy is holding if you also used pop rivets? :-) Not surprising that the improvement in one area led to failure in another. These cars are engineered fairly consistent where the upgrading in one area only reveals a weakness in another... Regards, Rich

Or: BMW Alternator Pulley Nut Removal Tool #12 7 110 I made my own. Took a 24mm socket, and ground flats on 2 sides 1 inch apart, and drilled out the middle to get a torx head to hold the pulley from spinning, and then use a 1" open end wrench. One of the BMW online shops also carries this tool for I think $25. I can't remember the URL though. The tool comes in very hand for putting it back on. The last choice is remove the alternator and use an impact wrench. Good luck. I don't have the ETK installed on my machine anymore...so I can't help with part numbers.
