Or ways to keep the alternator still, and still keep the original pulley in tact." Requires special socket depending on type of alternator Bosch or Valo (?) I believe others make a socket specific to each but Victory only makes the Bosch version. http://www.victoryproductdesign.com/tools_main.htm http://www.victoryproductdesign.com/images/layout_15.jpg

#5. Question on 3.2 vs. 3.0 M3's - from KLchmn@aol.com
Top
Date: Tue, 17 Feb 2004 21:04:30 EST From: KLchmn@aol.com Subject: Question on 3.2 vs. 3.0 M3's Gruppe, What's the consensus on which car is "faster" with only an intake, chip, and cat back exhaust (i.e., no cams, etc.). The 3.2 has more low end grunt and a 3.23 diff vs. a 3.15 in the 3.0, but the 3.0 has better breathing (but is it utilized?). Curious minds want to know... (A bit late, sorry. I'm behind in my email.) I've gotten nearly 40K miles from: Michelin Pilot Sports Yokohama AVS Sports - pro-rated mileage, replaced in "ugly wheel" incident (look it up in the archives :-)) Bridgestone S03s I'm currently on my 2nd set of Pilot Sports. I find them to be a slightly better street tire (for my needs) than the SO3s - a bit quieter, less harsh. They have a noticeably less-stiff sidewall, which accounts for the foregoing reaction. As a consequence they are less crisp at turn-in, but on the street car, <shrug>, that's no big deal. My 2 cents, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 JP/A5

Comments? Probably also due to your progressing as a student, and getting better at your braking technique as well. I ran plain-jane Brembos as track rotors on the M3 - no warping problems and CHEAP (when you're at the track every other weekend like I was, this is a good thing :-)). I used them with PF90 pads (great driving school pad, IMO), as well as one set of PF97 pads (ran one set at the end of the M3's track experience, worked just fine at Laguna Seca - only data point). So, I would summarize my opinion on track brakes as: PF90/97 pads (Yes, Porterfield Brakes still offers an E36M3 List discount; I still order all my Hawk pads from them.) Brembo rotors ATE Super Blue/TYP200 - changed frequently Ducting optional (I didn't) Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - stock pads & rotors now 1993 325is #44 JP/A5 - AP Racing w/Hawk Blues (set of HT-15s to try next)

#8. M3 vs. EVO8 and STi @ the track? - from Rob

Date: Tue, 17 Feb 2004 21:22:50 -0700 From: "Rob" <speedmaster@telus.net> Subject: M3 vs. EVO8 and STi @ the track? Has anyone had the opportunity to run against a well driven EVO8 or STi at the track or Auto X in an E36 M3? I have encountered a few STis at local events, but they were only being driving @ 7/10th so it was impossible to evaluate whether or not they are a serious threat to my E36 ;) On paper the cars are close in terms of power/weight, but the ricers have AWD to put down the power, 10 years of technical advances, real brakes and are insanely easy to get ~350hp from! Thoughts?

Gary Richardson's E36 M3 won the SCCA SM nationals in 2002 and 2003 (With Jeff Reitmier driving). He and I ran against an EVO8 at the Arizona SCCA National Tour. The same EVO8 that was second in ESP last year at the Nationals. Gary and I were handily dusted off. Now, the EVO was on Kumho 710's, which are looking to be the new hot tire. I had Kumho Victoracers, and Gary had Hoosier A3S03's. So the difference in tires is worth something, but I am sure the EVO is something we have to watch out for with the right driver. That's all the data I have right now. I can't wait for some Kumho 710's that will fit my car... I decided to finally replace the sensor. No problem ordered new sensor installed and yes I did plug it back in. Drive to work today, turn off car, spectacular, it there it is again. Any ideas what I should check next? Thanks Joe
