If you pull up on the door lock knob (the thing that pokes through the door panel so that you can push down on it to lock the door) sharply, you'll see the white plastic catch that the dangling rod should go into (unless it's already broken off). It'll take a few tries of closing and opening the door lock pull and catching the lever. I am also looking to purchase four point harnesses for the drivers and passengers sides. I have a stock cat back exhaust from a 95 325is and hopefully will also have a stock cat back exhaust from a 95 M3 I will be interested in trading or selling. I might be interested in selling four 10 spoke Motorsport wheels with tires. I have two 7.5" and two 8.5". Respond if you have an interest. I can supply pictures and details about the tires.

And in the same vein, there's no inherent connection between how the sensor reads and where that line is printed on the reservoir. Neil 96 M3

Looking on line I find several vendors carrying cross drilled E46 M3 rotors. I've dealt with swiss cheese rotors before and do not want to go back! Don't they come from the factory with solid rotors? Where's a good place to purchase a spare set? Jeff Bjerke 97 M3 Sedan 97 M3 Sedan Race Car

I've driven a good friend's STI at about 9/10th's and it's easily one of the faster cars that I've experienced (which includes quite a few high pedigree German and Italian machines). However, it's very noisy inside and VERY stiff. Perfect for autocross (which is what he uses it for) but not so ideal for commuting (which is also what he uses it for). Haven't driven the EVO 8 but the magazines describing it as the sharpest handling tool in the shed makes me curious... Now, the EVO was on Kumho 710's, which are looking to be the new hot tire. I had Kumho Victoracers, and Gary had Hoosier A3S03's. So the difference in tires is worth something, but I am sure the EVO is something we have to watch out for with the right driver. Chris 97 M3/4 __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? #7. Head crack question -- typical location - from KLchmn@aol.com

Date: Wed, 18 Feb 2004 18:08:22 EST From: KLchmn@aol.com Subject: Head crack question -- typical location For those of you unfortunate enough to have the head crack on your E36 M3, where did it crack? The machine shop did not find a crack in my head, but the valves are still in the head. The head had a slight warp in it though, so that's a likely culprit of the cooling system pressurizing. I have them holding on the head until I decide whether to rip it apart or just deck it and go. Thanks for your help. Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock

#8. Power steering noise - from david tow

Please keep me posted on your latest findings. Thanks a lot in advance! David --------------------------------------------------------------------- Jason Knight wrote: Last week while driving I lost my power steering. Upon arriving home I found that the rubber to metal connection on the reservoir to rack line was separated. I replaced the line, added fluid, bled the system and added more, and power steering returned. However, there is now a groaning noise that occurs when I turn the wheel at low speeds. If I'm going over 20 or so the noise is not present. I suppose that I may have fried my pump or my rack. Does anyone have experience with this and know what a dead or dying rack or pump sounds like? I would think that if either was truly gone I would not have power steering, which I definitely have. Thanks for any and all input. Driving the 2002 is fun but I'm ready to drive the M3 again. I need to replace the belts and would be willing to spend a couple hundred bucks to get 5+ HP gain and for the therepeudic value of a 2 hour "tangible" project. UUC, Rogue, Victory, etc. Who has the best product for the price? Should I be concerned about battery life, etc. I'm assuming the engineers at BMW know a bit more than I and I don't want to sacrifice the life of other components or proper cooling for 5 HP and a weekend project. Basically, I want to tinker and need affirmation whether it makes sense and who to go with. Shel 1998 M3

#10. Short shift options - from eevans@planetc.com
Top
Date: Wed, 18 Feb 2004 20:47:33 -0500 From: eevans@planetc.com Subject: Short shift options There's been a lot of discussion about using the Z8 shifter on E30 M3s as an alternative shifter. Does anyone know or have experience w/ another shifter for the E36 M3? I want to retain that silky smooth shifting feel, but a shorter throw would be a welcome improvement. I haven't had much satisfaction w/ the commercial short shift applications available. It sounds like the Z8 shifter might be a great compromise if it fits and is actually a shorter throw.
