Thanks for catching this. I got it from Bentley, which shows two values: Shaft with external hexagon 65 Nm/48 lb-ft Shaft with internal hexagon 44 Nm/32 lb-ft Since the stock strut shaft has the internal hex, I took that value. However after loading and checking the TIS, I see there's both a third option and a further level of detail concerning the thread size: All M14 64 Nm Shaft with external hexagon M12 64 Nm Shaft with internal hexagon M12 44 Nm Since both the Koni and stock front dampers use M14 threads, then 64 Nm (47 lb-ft) would surely be the proper value, although this was for some reason omitted from Bentley. I'm reasonably sure that Koni specified some other, lower value, but I don't have their assembly instructions any more, and may be remembering that wrongly. Going back to the original discussion, even the 64 Nm/47 lb-ft torque isn't very large with respect to the fastener size. Neil 96 M3

I had the same thing happen to a 525 many years ago and even further back with a Nissan 260Z head (went through 3 of those, good thing they were cheap, comparatively). The Nissan was a track girl but the 525 only went back an forth to work. Somebody ignored a low coolant level warning, figuring that their husband could take care of it on Saturday. Oops. Oh and I'm running the JC Injector software on my 97 M3 too. I just had the low coolant message on the computer yesterday as soon as I started it. Don't you think, based on past history, that I put water in it that very instant? You bet I did! Mel Silva Houston, TX www.melsilva.net -------------------------------------------------------------- Applying Occam's Razor (a tool that should be in every garage) the cause of your head damage is almost certainly the obvious one: you had an unrelated cooling system problem and overheated on track. The E36 M3 head is pretty sensitive to this, which is why care and attention to the cooling system is worthwhile. Neil 96 M3

A bit of history, 70+K miles, 6 months ago I replaced the Rear trailing arm bushing with Ground Control inserts, Bilsteins/Eibachs and had the car aligned. <snip> I cannot think of anything else except maybe the alignment. Any suggestions? What else should I be looking for? Ahmad let me know what you find out. I've got the same issue, only with the passenger side. Basically the same details - New RTAB, CG Inserts, etc. Kim Burgess

Around $50/pop with new spark plug extensions (aka elephant trunks). Other brands can be had for less, but none come with the plug extensions. > Also, what is least expensive source? Thanks. A year or two ago when I was replacing mine, there was a vendor on either this or UUC list that came forward with the lowest price and free shipping. His name escapes me right now. I bet if you post a solicitation for Bosch coils on these two lists, he will get back to you. alex f

I do recall you posting this information to the digest - in this case, though, I'm referring to the difference in appearance between the two types of E36 arms I *think* I have and the appearance of the E30 arms. Again, one of my arms has seven holes and appears identical to arms I recently installed on an E30. It has a BMW stamp and according to my records was installed at the factory. The other has only four holes, also a BMW stamp, and was installed by a local dealer with 24,000 miles on the car. Again, do new 1995 M3 arms have only four holes, or did this dealer install an incorrect arm on the car, or was the arm believed to be factory with seven holes in fact an incorrect arm installed somtime after manufacture? Thanks again, Chip Mitchell >Following is an exact repost of an email I sent to the digest and copied chipm@uga.edu on January 23, 2004 > > >> They share the same geometry (and appear to be physically identical) >> between the E30 control arms and the 1995 E36 M3 control arms (not >> true for 1996+ E36 M3 control arms). You may want to check that out. They were $150 for the set, if I recall correctly. Chris Suspect I have a bad coil pack on no. 1 cylinder of my 99 M Coupe with 48,000 miles. Am inclined to replace all 6. Understand that there are more than one manufacturer -- Bosch and, perhaps, Bremi. Any advice as to which is best? Also, what is least expensive source? Thanks. Date: Sun, 22 Feb 2004 11:00:29 -0800 (PST) From: Vince Leo <m332is@yahoo.com> Subject: clear fronts, sides, rears I sold my 99 M3 2 dr over 1.5 yrs ago at which time I had taken it back to stock. While going through the garage, I found the clear "euro" front turn signals, side markers and rear tail light assemblies. Again, they are for an e36 2 door. They only fit the 2 door as the corners and tail lights are different on the 4 dr. Front corners - $50, plus shipping Sides (post 10/96 models) $30, plus shipping Rears $200, plus shipping I would rather sell the entire package and will take $250, plus shipping for the whole thing.
