I'm suspicious of his so called CSL chip too. I happen to have my stock '95 M3 chip on my desk. The BMW part numbers are identical. I would expect the LTW M3 to have a different part number. Anybody know? However, as Mike points out, the true test would be the lack of top speed limiter. Lowell Seaton '95 M3

However unless your Koni strut inserts are different from mine, they take the same stock M14x1.5 shaft nut, which can be either 21mm or 22mm across the flats, depending. Neil 96 M3

The 95 M3 > came with a 3.23 diff instead of the normal 95 M3's 3.15. And on top of that, since the 3.23 final drive was fitted to all the 96+ M3s, there's absolutely nothing rare or unusual about it. In fact since lots of racers switch to 3.46 or other short rear ends, I'd bet that take-off 3.23 ring and pinion sets are a dime a dozen. Neil 96 M3 - 3.23:1

I've wanted to change my stock 3.15 differential to 3.23 for years. [I've long ago changed wheels from 235/40 on 7.5" rims to taller 245/40 on 8.5" rims on my M3]. The oversized tires and tall gearing are definitely noticeable off the line. However, I've never found a source for BMW stock ring and pinion gearsets. BMW doesn't sell them separately. The only way to change the rear end gearing is to swap the complete differential. New price is probably over $2000. And everybody wants $700+ for used ones that I question how good they would be. [e.g. my 75,000 differential is shot. It needs to be rebuilt.] I hate to pay $700 for a used one and then $$$ to have it rebuilt. I would just as soon rebuild with my own differential and change the ring & pinion. I'm tempted to bid on this guy's auction but I'll want to know what he is selling first. Lowell Seaton '95 M3

The LTW I bought used was sold for > $33,000 new after sitting in the dealer show room for 14 months. In March 1996, I was in one of our local Dallas BMW dealerships kicking the tires on M3's. They had a new LTW on the floor - sticker price $46,000. I quickly had the salesman down to $36,000 and I hadn't even sat in it. They were offering $7,000 off sticker price on all M3's on the lot. I joked that it would be pretty hard to sell a car in Dallas without A/C or a sunroof. ;-) And this was in the winter. That LTW sat on the floor for almost a year. I sometimes regret not making an offer on it. But it would have been very uncomfortable to drive in the Dallas summers and prohibitively expensive to retrofit with A/C. Lowell Seaton '95 M3

I'd look for a used 3.38 ('96-'99 M3 automatic) or a 3.46 instead... -josh --- LoweSeaton@aol.com wrote: -snip- > > Neil, > > I'll take two bits worth of 3.23 ring and pinion > gears then!! <g> > Seriously, I don't know what the eBay seller is > pedaling.
