All I did was jack up one rear wheel in the air, with the other on the ground. I used a lugnut in the vertical plane of the centerline of the wheel to try to minimize the extra moment arm by keeping the torque wrench parallel to the ground. Car out of gear, and e-brake off. I tried it several times, and it does vary slightly. As long as I mimized any extra torque from the torque wrench, the numbers were similar. Hopefully that makes sense. #5. Ignition key cylinder question - from Milvid Jr., Kenneth (BearingPoint)
Top
Date: Wed, 25 Feb 2004 10:24:25 -0600 From: "Milvid Jr., Kenneth (BearingPoint)" <kmilvidjr@bearingpoint.net> Subject: Ignition key cylinder question I have a problem with my ignition key cylinder (95 M3, SMS II) and I couldn't find the answer in the archives. My cylinder has locked in place at the "radio" position with electrical power to the car and the key can slide out freely. I have disconnected the battery but no luck. I also checked the procedure for removing the cylinder using a piece of wire and the key but I cannot pull the cylinder out because the key just slides out. Is there a way to pull the cylinder without having to get an entire new ignition switch? Thanks for the help. #6. 1999 M3 Coupe for Sale (Southern CA) - from Mark Kern
Top
Date: Wed, 25 Feb 2004 08:47:05 -0800 From: "Mark Kern" <markkern@cox.net> Subject: 1999 M3 Coupe for Sale (Southern CA) 1999 2-door M3 for sale. Yep, got married and it's got to go! The car has only 39,000+ miles and is in great condition. Recently tested at K&N Filters, it came out as the best of all the e36 M3s they tested for horsepower, condition and handling. Dyno chart is available. The car is Sharked (chipped), with Intake (K&N version on the way) and better brakes (European floating rotors, SS brake lines, high-performance pads). KBB lists the car for $27,230 without the upgrades. Inspection II (40k mile inspection) is up, so I'm knocking $1000 off the price to: $26,230 The car is located in Irvine, CA. Interested buyers should contact me via e-mail at mark@kernicus.com - Markus

#7. Diff oil for limited slip - from Jon Cepale
Top
Date: Wed, 25 Feb 2004 09:20:44 -0800 (PST) From: Jon Cepale <jcepale@yahoo.com> Subject: Diff oil for limited slip I just now got to reading the mails from the last 3 days. I have a comment on diff fluid. Lowell mentioned he's running Redline 75W/90NS gear oil. I accidently used that the last time I changed my diff oil. I was thinking "no traction control" on my '95 when I bought it. Anyway, I had the car into the shop (Autoscope) a few hundred miles later, tracking down a clunk noise in the rear. It was unrealted to the diff, but while searching the techs noticed a noise comming from the diff and asked me what kind of gear oil I had in there. When I told them it was the non-slip oil, they were said "Get that out of there ASAP! These diffs NEED the gear oil for the limited slip." They basically said the NS stuff will kill the diff. Luckily (I hope) I'd only had the stuff in for about 300 miles. I flushed the diff and put in the 'regular' Redline 75W/90 gear oil that night. Jon __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
